A sort of hack I use sometimes (clearly documented) is to avoid joins when dealing with large data, mainly if caching is not an option (it should be but, hey, I found out it's not always like that!). Say you have a table for people and anot

I find that link pretty interesting but I still don't understand why you say that. I'm saying Google caring about design on Google Maps is the exception that proves the rule (the rule being that they don't care much about design). Can you h

I'm just saying but who knows if in x years you also have to use Apple? You know, there was always an alternative for Microsoft products like there is for Apple ones but people actually vote on this with their wallet: if the vast majority c

It's basically the same thing. Think of Rework as the extended edition of Getting Real.

Also know by myself as The Bible. Its new version, Rework, has been by the bed since it was released. Really inspiring book even if you don't agree with everything, it shows you a different view of lots of interesting topics in an easy to r

I have a few comments on this because I feel this is actually very useful to me. I'm working for myself right now, doing some projects I wanted to do a long time ago but I'm also consulting on the side. This consulting thing is really trick

The immediate problem I see with it is how does that person know how to do it my way? At least when I look at some pictures from a trip I don't always choose the most obvious as my favorite, there's some emotional aspect to some picture tha

I'm thinking out loud here but I believe most people fear that day so I'm wondering whether a service which everyday would ask you to choose between a couple of pictures (say order 10 pictures), you would easily get at least 1000 pictures p

I believe I understand what you are trying to say but just to be sure, you didn't realize those were text boxes at first, is that it? If so, yes, that's a problem with this approach, we tried to make something somewhat unique by making the
