Amazing considering they are basically renting out open source on Azure by the minute... I'm not sure what is happening at Microsoft these days. It feels like they are just passing a massive crack pipe between departments.

I don't agree with this point. We have to remember a lot more stuff these days just to exist. We retain much more information and skill than we ever did in the 80s. I remember that. Not to say there aren't other issues but for me

What about Philips and Nokia who sold out a vast chunk of European business and leverage. Where were the EU then?

I completely agree with what the EU have done so far on a mostly positive front. But at the same time all governments and unions seem to regress to measures which lead to worse consumer protection and a worse security and privacy outcome in

Oh c'mon be serious. This is a technical forum. Don't play that line. I thought better of HN. I oppose non-retractable technical measures which can be repurposed for total surveillance and information control.

No I just don’t want my private messages scanned.

EU proposed mandatory CSAM scanning in private messaging is about as harmful as it gets.

I think you underestimate the amount of bureaucracy they can muster to avoid acknowledgement and change. But I live in hope.

I distrust their motivations. I don't know anyone who doesn't either. Their regulatory and privacy stance is actively harmful at the moment.

This is about right. A friend of mine was hit by another car two weeks ago and was injured in the crash. The other driver drove off without stopping. Police didn't turn up for the accident. They handed 360 dash cams over to the police.

Wait until they work out how build sheep fucking machines in Minecraft! As for Roblox I watch with one eye open and educate them. It's a great environment to learn distrust for others, particularly in Adopt Me. They learned how to not

I worked for a SOC2 and ISO27001 cert outfit. Real security starts with a good security culture. Audit and compliance assures audit and compliance passes not a good security culture. While I respect that the two are independent, being audit

Im not allowed to do that. I work in high security environments usually. We can’t even talk to GitHub from those nodes. And if we could we’d be shot for doing it. Pulling stuff out of GitHub regardless of the repo into a production machine

I’m in the same space but I found the best option was just to not bother with anything past the default plugins. I type one simple vimrc from memory that is about ten lines and job done. Also I only use a fairly common subset of commands. I

Advice. Don’t bother if you have a monolith. Just keep trucking on with it and partition your stuff vertically with shared auth and marketing site. Fuck microservices unless you have a tiny little product with a few million users. Which is

Depends how badly designed your car is. Mine sits just to the top left of the steering wheel. The phone does dead reckoning as well. It has accelerometers and a compass built in.

The phone has a screen and sits on the dash. I don't use BT audio for directions, only for calls and Apple Music.

It doesn't make sense for most people who realistically can't drop on a Tesla. My car, all the maintenance, the insurance and all the fuel I can put in my car over its entire lifespan even at current fuel prices is cheaper than th

To clarify I don't want CarPlay or iOS in the car. I want the car to have its own platform which is not connected to the non-essential functions and my iOS device can do that in isolation. The only real functions that are required for

I’d rather the car has no software at all past simple audio connection myself. My current set up is a BT connection to my iOS device and it is absolutely spot on for reliability and I have full voice and tactile controls for everything.

I agree with this. I work on a very large platform and the cost of complexity like this is immense. It’s a not insignificant measurable loss versus not using docker and kubernetes. We’d have been better off using flat EC2 instances for ever

There were some serious issues with CalDAV originally which made me doubt the reliability of that. Particularly with authentication and tokens to third party services. As for notes via IMAP that must be new because it said in the documentat
