This is why I feel the high street is failing. It is assumed that a single store’s value is in the products it directly sells. And if it’s making a loss... shut it down! A store itself should be an “experience”. You go in, play with product

Richard Dawkins’ The Ancestors Tale is a great layman introduction, on par with Bill Bryson’s as mentioned a few posts up. I’ve read both. Both cover similar subject matter, but approach it from opposite chronological orders.

Well there’s a simple response to that... don’t upgrade. No one is forcing you to.

There's only so much to listen to. On spans of weeks where I need to drive a daily commute for an hour each way, it eventually gets to the point where I prefer just listening to silence than the same old music or podcasts again. It tak

I live in London and a few years ago I used to commute from east to west (Ealing to Liverpool Street). The trip is normally 45 minutes each way on the Central Line, however I would regularly miss out on a seat and be subjected to a cattle-c

They maybe be expensive but will last a decade or longer, so price is negated. And when you replace in 10 years, price will be minuscule as to what it is now.

Surely your age will assist you here (I’m 35 too). Unlike software development which is typically a “young mans game” due to the constant need to learn the latest thing (I know, sweeping generalisation), Product Management requires signific

You’re still providing excellent usability test data. You’ve proved that their client’s blatant user-unfriendliness advertising strategy doesn’t work on you. Unfortunately 90% of their other test subjects probably clicked the advert so they

If they use mailchimp, unsubscribing gives you the opportunity to report there account as spam and get them banned from the service. Also no reason you can’t also mark it as spam in your email client too.

I’m now a contractor charging by the hour in a company I used to be an employee in (no OT). It’s amazing how few meetings I get invited to now compared to my previous employment. I just get left to get my stuff done and I’m kept up to date

This would be terrible for usability. Allow the user to see the date how they want, then you process the data that’s returned.

Technically, I believe that has always been the definition of a hacker, even back in the 80’s. Since then it’s been movies and popular culture that have got it wrong. I believe that what most people think of a hacker, i.e someone who digita

Just launched https://www.medistudents.com . Not technically fancy (it’s PHP+MySQL) but I thought I’d do something a little unique with how it’s built and managed. The front end (apart from educational modules - see below) is bui

Could it be that nobody knows what the latest version is any more due to the naming convention. At least with the big cats, they tended to get 'bigger' as they went along. Maybe they should switch to simply 'macOS 2017'

Still exists (although discontinued). Open the Adobe CC dialogue, go to the Apps part, tick "View older versions" (or something like that), and you should find its CS6 version.

Ditto. Lost me at the first line. I'm fine with the title, but if someone feels they need to insert a 'fuck' per line to get their point across, I'm leaving.

The main problem with this would be non-standardisation. For example, I have 4 bank accounts at 4 different banks and each has a different piece of hardware for 2FA. Imagine if you needed an individual key fob for every single online accoun

I just had this exact 'problem' with an API I'm building. I just ended up creating both routes which accessed the same internal function to return the same results - no duplication of code necessary. Personally I think this

Actually, if you read one of their blog posts from the last few weeks, they've pretty much abandoned it because it's too hard a problem to solve. Sorry I can't cite, on a mobile and in a rush.

Great idea but you may want to rethink the name. PowWowNow is a well know (at least in the U.K.) conference call provider. May prove a big issue for you since you're in a similar field. Looking forward to the weekly updates.

A front end developer should understand that a TCP request (i.e what an HTTP request is) consists of a handshake which means to receive a file from a server, it takes roughly 5/6 calls to and from the server. So if your UI consists of

That's next year's upgrade. This year it's the feature screen, next year it's the performance boost. Keep that marketing department ticking over.

Not unrealistic to assume a scenario where a disgruntled IT technician installs countless hardware key loggers throughout an open plan office. Could be easier and less noticeable than trying to circumvent the business-grade antivirus.
