New York requires annual car inspections that include emissions testing as well as a basic safety check (tires, brakes, head/signal/brake lights, horn, fluids, and a few other things). They "only" cost $20 but they put a

Interestingly, Long Island City in New York has become the same sort of concrete soulless high rise area, with an equally uninteresting name. https://ny.curbed.com/2016/8/31/12732412/long-island-city-de..

+1 for diesel exhaust. It gives me weird flashbacks of being on like a Greyhound bus or Amtrak train when I was little and with my family which are somehow comforting.

Anecdotal but the gamification of exercise with respect to some of the newer products out there (Peloton, Zwift, Apple Fitness+) seems to be a step in this direction. I've been using Zwift for the past couple of months and have ridden

This is one of the major things I miss about drinking in bars. I've had many super enlightening conversations with people I would otherwise never talk with at bars after a couple beers. YMMV of course, but as a "happy drunk"

For me it was team sports or group hobbies, in non-pandemic times, anyway. Search for something that interests you and see if groups in the area exist for it. You always at least have the focus of the group in common with everyone there, an

I agree with all this. I've been WFH remote for a little over 3 years now. My productivity went down a little the first couple years, but it's dipped a lot more in the past year, even though I was already "used to" WFH.

This, to me, is the right attitude to have. I really hope the pendulum eventually swings back to it being acceptable to have nuanced opinions about things. Nowadays if you dislike one thing a corporation does, or one publicized event from s
