It's not a real environment though. It's a sandboxed environment with limited, user-authorized APIs.

Performance will come as the need develops. Yes it's faster to render something on the server right now, but that may not be the case in the near future. The concept of loading something from the server is also only accounting for a ve

I'm not saying text content doesn't have its place, but what I am saying is that unless you're absolutely certain your users aren't going to be using JS (hint: that's effectively no one) then it's just not wort

The difference now is that most people are using browsers that will automatically update in order to work with new features.

I'm so tired of people using "it doesn't work without JavaScript!" as an argument. To me it sounds as relevant as saying "it doesn't work without HDMI!" What is so bad about JS that you just can't use

This may be true for games (I'm not sure), but I'm not sure it's good advice for startups in general (in case anyone was thinking that.) Throw things at the wall and see what sticks. Don't fall victim to sunk cost fallac

One lead came from a lead developer who came across my stuff which was highly relevant to what they were working on. Still wanted coding tests done though.

Hey nerd, I'm a developer in Vancouver too. To answer your question, I got started through a close connection. GitHub has generated several leads for me too. Want me to have a look at your resume? There might be something you can impro

I disagree with your first point. The fundamental problem OAuth solves is secure authentication. OAuth 2.0 provides this at a bear minimum as it can be broken in any way SSL/TLS can be broken. The argument the author is making is that

I know Michel Laberge, he's from my home town of Bowen Island, BC. I went to school with his son, and my earliest memory of his mad scientist work was when his son brought in a mechanical hand controlled by a glove for his grade 6 scie

To the people replying to this comment, he's not talking about the ads not being able to use the users location. Most don't. But plenty of ad networks don't work properly or the CPM is much lower for HTTPS enabled websites. I

This is actually impossible without hardware encryption. Apple should have no problem with this since they have control over their hardware, but they don't do anything to prevent fake scores from showing up in their leaderboards. Xbox

Nice strawman you're building there. We're talking about reddit, a unicorn by most standards - at least in terms of user base. This isn't some random app with no promotion or user base.
