If it’s built at 1/3 the cost but needs to be rebuilt frequently, then it’s not really cheaper. The cost just gets spread out over time and you incur the additional cost of needing to deal with the sourcing and reconstructing of the ho

Very early on in my career, I had a few good mentors who all told me the same piece of advice - tech (IT, programming, QA, etc) are __cost centers__ to most businesses. No matter how valuable you are, your pay is not going to scale the same

Anecdata - We had to buy a car last year to replace our old, but failing car. This matches the experience we had. We were ok with used, so that’s what we ended up with. If you’re on a tight budget, that’s where you’ll end up. From what we r

Seems… quite lacking in details? It makes some pretty bold claims but doesn’t explain how it achieves things like better performance. Their docs are also pretty empty.

Not saying one OS is better than the other, but couldn’t you say the reverse for other DE features? Except instead of money, it’s time. For example, monitor independent dynamic workspaces with 1:1 touch gesture controls.

Delta only started to recover today, so it’s more like 4-5 days of canceled flights. Not saying it’s a huge difference but 1-2 greatly underplays how bad it was for people flying Delta vs any other airline.

If it’s anything like where I used to live in NY, the instantiation of red light cameras were soon followed by much shorter green-yellow-red light timings. I wouldn’t be surprised if once the data is opened up, a correlation was to be found

I don’t think you’d need to download on the fly. You can imagine models being installed like extensions where chrome comes with Gemini installed by default. Then have the API allow for falling back to the default (Gemini) or throwing an err

Of course it’s deliberate. Streaming high quality content is expensive and there is very little incentive for them to allow that given their main draw isn’t the streaming service, but the unique content library they have.

Genuine question since I don’t know much about inheritance. Don’t things like houses, stocks, etc get taxed in certain places? Whereas I don’t think copyright does? In a way, that is similar to having to give property away upon death (can’t

Why take a loan when you can use customers as an interest free loan without any obligation to pay it back if you fail? \s That’s pretty much what this ongoing trend towards releasing unfinished products is. It’s a way for companies to explo

I love this rant of his. This trend towards selling unfinished products at full price is corporations exploiting yet another lever to squeeze more money out of people. And that lever is to treat customers not as customers but as investors.

I’m glad to see this near the top of this post. The reality of what’s been happening to libraries in the shift to the digital age keeps getting ignored by everyone. For those of us who grew up only being able to afford reading books by borr

Not remembering window placement is why I’ve been exploring switching back to Linux. But on Linux, I’m kinda shocked at the lack of per-monitor workspaces / virtual desktops and the lack of good gestures. I feel like for my workflow, w

Do you have links to the userchrome tweaks that you use? I hear that mentioned a lot as a way to make sideberry better. IMO, the default for sideberry isn’t good. The few tweaks that weren’t outdated made things a bit better, but nothing re
