Agreed on both points. Counter Culture labels its coffee with roast date and is local, which is part of the reason it’s one of the only coffees I buy at the grocery store: they always have something I like, usually roasted within 4-14 days.

Another “don’t cheat” intuition is “you can’t statically know that a function call prior to the final result produces the correct answer”. This fails that criterion, as you can just throw away all the calls except badsort 0. My criterion is

It's not that I like to have the same roaster, it's that I typically only have access to one high quality roaster that's fresh. When I go to a coffeeshop that's downtown or another city, I often get different roasters. T

I’m a big coffee fan, but my routine leaves me buying whatever is fresh from Counter Culture at Whole Foods. I don’t make regular trips to a coffee shop, because it doesn’t fit my schedule. If many of those roasters are decent, this would g

I agree that MDN is not always at the right level of detail for a lot of questions, but the archived version of w3fools shows some truly awful errors. The w3schools content just didn't meet a minimal bar of accuracy back then.

Many years ago, when w3schools was truly terrible, a bunch of prominent developers created https://www.w3fools.com to promote MDN. Nowadays, that site reads Today, W3Schools has largely resolved these issues and addressed the m

Yes, I agree. At a minimum, I think it would be a big business model change. If they just exploited this particular bit of information, it would be a small financial gain with a big loss of trust. To make it worthwhile, they'd have to

It's trust, with aligned incentives. Apple currently doesn't have any method of making money off this information that we know about, and has a lot of goodwill for protecting people's privacy.[0] In contrast, companies like G

It doesn’t strike me as true either. I was just thinking about how my Intel MacBook came with 1GB in fall 2006 (stock was 512 MB, iirc). Granted, that wasn’t a professional machine, but I’d say expected memory for a machine has grown 4x in

If one increase went into effect in April 2015, and another went into effect in January 2016, that means you have employees whose minimum wage was $9.47 one day, and $13 less than 365 days later. Arguably, writing it as three separate years

I got the number from the NYT article, which said $9.47 to $11.00 in April 2015, then $11.00 to $13.00 in January 2016. That is a one year period, and a 37% increase. Here is another source that mentions $9.32. https://www.natlaw
