There is/was lots of speculative armchairing as well, when HSLAs started coming into the picture. Structural adhesives also get pointed to as a reason not to do big repairs like this. In practice it isn't really borne out. HSLA (h

In many ways its harder to see something through water than it is to see it through rock . Ground-penetrating microwave radar can get through tens of meters of quartz but centimeters of water. VLF and ULF penetrate 10-100x farther throug

oh my yes. The oil that comes in the engine of a vehicle is a good proxy for how carefully it was built. It collects everything that wasn't cleaned off, and every burr and bad surface creates more gunk during the factory run-in. Eve

DC diesel electrics are commutated for quite low starting voltage- wheelspin is immensely expensive to repair. Then they can tweak throttle to hit voltage, but they'd have to be balancing that with frequency unless they were very luck

Swashplate engines are essentially the current go-to: they're extremely compact and have many other good properties, but wear out quickly. I believe they are significantly more compact than rotaries (and this), though.

Sliding friction is an issue with efficiency, I suspect. The flat sides of the rotor are holding back hot, compressed, abrasive gas. That means the faces need to be very flat and very rigid. Unlike the face of an engine block, you can&#
