Sorry, I've already been asked to memorize a 32-character string, so the slot has been filled. Coincidentally, it also starts with Z.

This should not be a surprise, as this supports the NIST's revised recommendations (from June 2017!) that passwords should not expire [0], because it actually leads to less-secure passwords for this exact reason. Furthermore, many co

> "The problem is it'll take over $1 trillion to upgrade US drinking water infrastructure. So, the investment must generate a return in order to be self sustaining [...]" Are you sure it isn't satire?

I would say in general, no. For a long time, American Express had something along the lines of `^[A-z0-9]{6,8}$`. Given a candidate string, evaluating even this extremely basic regex will take more time than comparing it against a hash tabl

On average, it looks like it's about μ=$3,655.91 per flight hour (σ=$2,036.95), with a high correlation with maximum passengers. Cost per hour, per passenger is μ=$320.28, σ=$67.45, assuming the plane is full. https://www.ao

The IFF referenced in the article seems like a great example of how good-intentioned changes to incentive structures can have very warped outcomes, potentially years later. These kinds of effects keep popping up for me, even in industry con

There are probably several factors at play here. First, not all of the parts are necessarily produced in the USA - the PCBA is produced there, and the parts are assembled there, but the parts themselves are likely procured elsewhere. Ev

The dynamic gaze example really convinced me that eye tracking will be necessary for immersive VR. If you can achieve a 1+ order of magnitude improvement in rendering performance with no noticeable loss in quality... it would be very diffic

I think it will take some time for an effective business model to evolve that works for games. Games don't exactly follow the lump-sum, zero maintenance model of movies, but they also don't work well with the SaaS treadmill either

There are additional privacy layers in the system, such that every time you make a purchase, a temporary card number is generated and used, rather than your actual card number. This is beneficial as it prevents the retailer from tracking yo

It's a 14-person training set with an 8-person test set, so my guess is that it can pretty accurately predict seizures in the small group of people it is trained on . Whether the model could be kernelized for a useful general deployme

I think this is an over-simplistic view. Of course work isn't a social club, but it (usually) is a team environment, which means working closely with others to achieve a goal. And if a candidate can't avoid offending one person

Not that it's ideal, but if it's the same type of mask each time, you might consider enrolling your face with the mask on as an alternate appearance (you can record 2, I believe) in FaceID. I assume that the mask covers only a por

I can't speak for the Bay Area, but my region exhibits similar patterns. Consider an example. A "good" school might have 100 slots for out-of-area kindergartners, distributed via a lottery system. However, the lottery system

Extrapolating from the 3-year update guarantee Google offers for the Pixel line, and the October 2016 launch date of Google WiFi... I don't think you should get your hopes up, sadly.

Do you see a legal pathway for this to happen? In one scenario, CA keeps legislating more and more liabilities to PG&E until it goes bankrupt, in which case the state could take it over, but would also be saddled with those same liabili

I'm pretty surprised to find that Dyson even had an electric car project. The business similarity between vacuums and vehicles seems pretty low to me. Is it just the electric motors and Li-ion batteries?
