I've been trying to keep my average under 90g/day since about 2010 and most weeks nowadays I average half that. However I wouldn't call 500g a proper steak, only time I've seen stakes at that size is as novalty items on

Is the gnu-coreutils true much faster? I have a hard time seeing how return 0 can be so slow.

Does this work for Aqua applications as well? I'm thinking we'd like to use something like Hammerspoon or AppleScript to fetch the PID of the currently focused window. https://www.hammerspoon.org

This is actually very neat, I haven't though about pausing desktop applications to save battery/CPU before. Tried it out real quick with Safari on my work laptop (macOS), worked like a charm with killall -STOP "Safari&qu

We had/have a similar system in Sweden called SEQR[1] (pronounced secure) which were launched back in 2011 but it never took off widely. However a couple of years later, Swish[2], a similar system by the large banks using phone numbers

I had Hughes as a lecturer in University (Chalmers, Sweden) and we heavily utilized quick check in our Haskell courses. He’s a great lecturer and a brilliant mind, I do think they still teach new CS students Haskell with QuickCheck as a fir

See my comment about hacked Nooks, they're both really cheap and looks super fast. In general newer e-ink displays can render new content without refreshing the entire screen like in the early days. https://news.ycombinator.

I've seen hacks on the Nook Simple¹ allowing for even runnig PSX games with good refresh-rate, ever since I saw those demos I've been dreaming about a decent resolution EINK screen for my terminal sessions. [1] https://

Exactly what I was thinking when I saw this. I just want to attach a tmux/vi session to that EINK panel, I'll even bring my own wireless keyboard.

tokei is fast but isn't the smartest tool (at least for python). I compared it to pygount (and looked on individual files). Total lines is correct but it's grossly miscalculating code vs comments resulting in almost 2x total actua

This looks nice but would like to be able to use a white/blacklist for decorator folding. Many http-libraries/frameworks use flask-style decorators for the routes and these are usually very useful.

I think the problem is if you press q accidentally when you want to hit :q and then hit q again (recording @q), at this point Esc won't work and you have to hit q a third time to exit. When taking a second to think about it it's q

This argument could be made for any license that’s similar to another, I don’t think it’s fair reasoning. Why does 2-Clause BSD exist? Why does Apache license exist?

This is a common misconception but in fact the incompatibility is purely accidental, in addition I wouldn’t call GNU/GPL the most pragmatic license family either.

You're allowed to do assignments inside of expressions E.g. if(x:=f() is not None): print(x) You can read more about it here: https://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0572/

Well it’s like that by accident in 3.6 because cpython36 does it this way and no other implementation exists. In 3.7 it’s officially a part of the spec thus required by all Python 3.7 compatible implementations and not just cpython.
