Apple reigns supreme with people who have higher purchasing power than others. That’s the niche they want to maintain, not total market share.

There were a few attempts to kick out ActiveX based crap early on. This lead to crashing browsers and poor user experience so didn’t go far. Ultimately I think they saw it as a delivery mechanism for their technology which is a reasonable b

Nadella’s true colours showing through. A few years back on here people were virtually giving the guy a metaphorical hand job about the new improved Microsoft. So reality is as I described : hubris and marketing resulting in nothing but sta

Yep. Divorced 2017, lost most of my friends due to Brexit then COVID hit. Social life down the pan. Discovered Meetup earlier this year. Worth looking into it if you’re in a similar situation. No one knows anyone already on it and everyone

I’ve got a T440 here but I don’t use it because it’s slow. It’s for an SSD and 12Gb of RAM in it. The removable battery will no longer work due to a problem on the motherboard. The plastics are having worn. I don’t want to use it any more s

I’m not sure that’s a problem. I usually thoroughly wear them out before they go obsolete and quite frankly I don’t want to use a 7+ year old computer. They’re pretty awful.

I completely agree with your points there and that is probably the issue.

Makes a change. It’s usually at a station or in a taxi.

I’m only having a gripe. I use terraform because it’s the least bad tool, not because it’s the best. I wish for better.

About the same. Just nice for stuff to suck in a different way occasionally.

As someone who spends two hours a day dealing with buggered terraform state and upgrading terraform and dealing with terraform bugs I can see it. It’s one of those things that really works pretty well but there are enough edge cases to make

Um, err we have a few tens of 1.5TB memory nodes lurking around. There are plenty of use cases for that out there.

I think that stuff is fairly “done” now. What is really the point of computing is the interaction and capabilities for the end user which is where the commercial focus is.

Not the OP but we should weed out all the incompetent folk ASAP rather than hide it to maintain delivery speed.

That’s two more layers of things I don’t want to deal with. No networks, no servers, no clients!

That’s all it can do. Has no internet connection on it. I don’t want the two to meet. That’s where the hell starts. I use this because the HDCP implementation on the TV is broken so it won’t play anything with any streaming boxes. I’m not

I did this for ages. It sucks. Maintenance, broken things all the time, bugs, ugh. I just torrent stuff on my Mac now and use a USB stick to ship it to my dumb TV.

Which servers/boards did you buy. I’m interested in one for local dev work as over a year it’s probably cheaper than renting a suitably large VM.

Actually I think it’s more that density is higher with the cloud. Although eu-west-1c ran out of nodes the other day so YMMV anyway.

Better to start with defining the problem that you are solving and whether or not you need to solve it before even delving into that particular rabbit hole. ROI on analysis is usually fairly low unless you’re in a regulated industry or the

No thanks. This smells like a new way to do more work I don’t want to do and at the same time gain a reputation for working for carrots.
