This is a niche mindset. From experience spanning 30 years, good initiatives rarely start from spontaneous discussion. In fact most of the ones from that class of communication turn into dead ends or wandering off the path into the woods an

I got a rise and expenses paid instead. Which is why I haven’t gone to work for google or amazon. Also they’re bustards and I don’t want to work for them.

That’s actually a really interesting perspective.

The issue is likely the general purpose potentially network attached computer should not be trusted for the safety critical portion of the system such as power control and monitoring. That should be a fully isolated computer with a light we

Linux, dumbphone (sms/calls only) Fastmail, no other cloud services. I’ve been on the verge of doing this for a few years so had my exit strategy well planned.

This is why I just noped the fuck out of the Apple ecosystem. I won’t support anything which relies on opaque blacklisting to ruin lives. In this example as well on iCloud shared galleries you can upload to other people’s ones you have been

CentOS is good about a year after first release. But all the packages are ancient.

Yes the two worlds are and always will be kept separate. I could have worded that better before. I have a desktop (not laptop) for my own stuff and a laptop for company stuff and a dock and KVM setup for it. I am not using the company lapto

You can post process that from RAW if you want to. I generally want people to not fuck around with my images before I get to do it though if I'm honest.

I still have a company issued laptop (Windows based). I don’t need a laptop for personal stuff.

Fortunately mine are teenagers now so that bit of my life is over mostly. I only get photos of them lurking, hiding and giving me the middle finger and that’s about it :)

Not sure how stable they are in that environment but we found some 80 year old tomato seeds in my grandfather’s shed when he died and they germinated. They didn’t produce fruit though which was weird.

It’s too late either way. The fact that it even got this far through implementation says the vendor is not on my side. Not only that once capability is revealed it can be required by governments and manipulated under warrant. Particularly i

That's a stupid assumption to make based on that. If someone emails or messages you a picture then you're in possession of it if you chose to be or not.

Well it’s now common knowledge that they can and will do this. So oppressive governments will almost certainly mandate that its required to do business in those countries. Thus it’s a no win game for the end user. Unless you choose not to p

Yes so far. Once the mechanism is in place it will be rolled out. I'm in the UK and we have a fairly nasty set of state legislation on censorship already and an increasingly authoritarian government so this is a big worry.

Yeah as I mentioned down the thread, once you act against the users, you're dead. I'm done. They are going from my life. Good job it's ebay 80% off fees this weekend here in the UK.

I'm not even interested in the outcome of this now. Apple has chosen to act against the users without consultation. They should be punished for this by their customers walking away.
