Accurate or not, that's a pretty good idea. Being able to detach the screen and plug the computer into a bigger monitor would suit perfectly the way I use my laptop at the moment. Plus, with the screen removed the "brick" is presumably a co

I agree with most of that, but it was really annoying to read. One would think that if one has time to make every third word a link, put some words in red, and illustrate everything with random pieces of clip art, one could make the effort

It was terrible. People were forced to eat raw fish for sustenance. They couldn't get full-sized electronics, so they were forced to make tiny ones. Unable to afford proper entertainment, folks would make do by taking turns to get up and si

That's a shame, because defining a "startup" is the most crucial part of the proposal, and I'm not convinced it can be done sensibly. I'm not sure I approve of the whole idea, but I have to admit it would have good consequences if it were i

I don't think it makes sense to talk about "deregulation" as the problem. The problem is mis-regulation. No doubt some aspects of banking were over-regulated and others were under-regulated, but the real problem is that the regulations whic

A 15-year secular bear market is not the same as a 15-year depression, or even a 15-year recession. It's fifteen years of overall crappy growth, not fifteen years of straight negative growth. The last fifteen years, you'll note, have been e

Eleven characters! Beats Fortran by four. We have a winner! (Counting only the loop-related characters, leaving out whitespace.) Unless anyone has a shorter way of doing something one hundred times?

The way I see it, there are two big opportunities for startups in hard times. Firstly, some old businesses will be shutting their doors, and every time a business closes down it leaves behind a bunch of unserved customers, who presumably co

Wait, you couldn't stand the weirdness of perl, but you like Tcl? All I can remember about Tcl from my months of using it is the ugly, ugly loops: for {set i 1} { $i <= 100 } { incr i } { puts "Well, that wasn't ugly syntax!" }

I don't think anyone defines a "free market" as meaning that there is no penalty for getting money by immoral means (e.g. stealing your neighbour's wallet). Polluting a river should, of course, also be penalized and/or priced appropriately.
