Flexibility is what keeps software engineering salaries going up. Over the course of my career I’ve done firmware, desktop software, mobile and web development for a variety of industries. All on the back of a 4 year computer science degree

Totally accurate and valuable information based on people in my network. You can make a lot of money working as a staff engineer at a top tier company.

It’s a bit pedantic to be honest. Multiple times it’s been pointed out on this thread that the OP was referring to total comp so I’m not sure why this keeps being brought up. While equity in a public company can go down and go down signific

The OP is confused, I work at coinbase and that figure refers to total comp. Also levels.fyi is listing salary and not total comp for the google position he is comparing.

No you are incorrect. That 224k is base at google not including equity. Staff engineers at google get a bonus and the majority of their comp is in equity, just like coin. Source, I have a lot of friends who are former/current staff eng

Well yeah, that’s what they think the candidates pay level will be. If the candidate doesn’t perform well in the interview they won’t get that offer.

No. This is well paid but not out of the ordinary for someone working at a top tier tech company in NYC/SF Bay Area. Think Facebook, Apple, etc. see https://www.levels.fyi/ for levels and comparison. Some of those comp

The macro economic setup doesn’t look good for small tech or growth stocks in general. Big tech I’m less worried about. We have central banks rising interest rates to fight inflation, caused by wars and massive monetary and fiscal stimulus

I work at coinbase. We have standardized salary bands, this is just the salary at your level (comp plus equity, not sure if bonus is included). They are letting you know this up front to not waste your time. One other thing that’s worth not

Yep. That was my plan, do the cheapest best course that would get me an F1 (student visa) then do an internship with OPT and switch to full time. Agreed, re FAANG or other companies that have a USA presence.

I hate tech interviews. If it’s any consolation, I remember when I interviewed at Apple, I failed 10 interviews for multiple teams over 2 years before I got my first job.

This is very similar to my story. I moved to America from Ireland in 2007 after graduating with a degree in cs. I did a year in grad school before working in tech in the Bay Area for more than a decade, including at two companies from FAANG

Can you explain why you think these integrations violate the Clayton act (I.e are unfair competition)? Google exists and Amazon and Microsoft have growing advertising businesses. All of which have vast throves of integrated consumer data.

Yeah sure but would that be worse than the other crashes that have happened over the life of BTC and other crypto assets? What kind of draw down would you expect and why? I think it’s unlikely that this would happen to all stable coins. So

Doesn’t that depend on the age of the building? I thought rent control was 1970s and earlier? That being said, SF is generally very tenant/sub tenant friendly in its laws.

Yeah, stuff like leveling and role changes become issues mainly at companies with large engineering teams. I.e FAANG, MSFT, etc. In my opinion the main reasons to work at a startup are A) it’s growing ridiculously fast and you expect your e
