I manage a Family Office and do monthly performance presentations with PowerPoint, the slides have an unique design, and updating them every month became extremely tedious and error prone. I was already looking for an excuse to learn Python

Koch believes “that consciousness is a fundamental, elementary property of living matter.” Consciousness is “magic” then. Even if we build machines to mimic a real brain, “it’ll be like a golem stumbling about,” he writes: adept at the T

Many interesting discussions here touch on tangential subjects. I for one found the information relevant.

I see this as a new tactic from the left. Since they can’t complain about unemployment in the record lows since forever, they complain about the jobs themselves.

E-ink advantage is not about price/motion/colors. Is about how close it is with printed paper, where external light like the Sun helps the visibility. It’s also interesting regarding energy requirements, as you can keep the image

English is not my first language but even I can spot some rough edges in the copy. Probably translated by a non-native, and they read like AliExpress’ product pages: trying to be inspiring but in reality just confusing.

Actually what I read was that the MCAS system was there to make the MAX fly exactly light a non-MAX 747, and thus avoiding the need for any additional training.

That first paragraph you quoted rings all my “snake oil salesman” alarms. This is the sort of the problem they have with the Watson division – They have brilliant people doing great work but the lies and overhype in marketing makes all of i

I might have read too much into it, but it’s easy for readers to extrapolate to “if you become more optimistic you’ll live longer”. A parallel would be to read “people who wear XXL are more likely to be fat”, where forcing to wear a smaller

Correlation does not imply causation. The paragraph stating that the “finding was independent of other factors” doesn’t really inspire confidence, there are countless factors that might impact the results.

I’m a premium subscriber but I do agree that the pop-ups on non-paying users are too much. It’s a poor proposition to make users subscribe to your service to get rid of annoying pop-ups. It’s like an airline company telling customers to pay

Why shouldn’t it be acceptable? I for one accept to trade repairability for less footprint/weight. And I also admire my ThinkPad T420 that I thoroughly hacked. Let the market decide what it wants. There’s space for all kinds os laptops

I feel the same. The stubbornness of Apple that was so frustrating is a bit more flexible now, paying attention to "subtle" feedback like the arrow key's sizes.

Very interesting point of view. I wish I had projects (like games) that could benefit to craft meticulously with C. The feel of coding closer to the hardware is great.

From my understanding, the documentary is about what Bill Gates is doing, and what inspired him. IMHO his cutthroat tactics leading Microsoft are already well documented and have nothing to do with the great work he’s doing now.
