Thanks. I can see the pro in that choice. But the con would be memory starvation (assuming that heap is bounded as in the JVM). I think one middle-path could be to mark the resource as released as soon as compiler detects it, and then relea

Curious to know why `drop` isn't called automatically by the compiler as soon as possible (since the type system already seems to know it is safe). Is there a trade-off involved here?

I have seen Amazon.in silently adding prices during checkout (deliberate or not I can't say ofcourse). I haven't experienced Flipkart adding prices during checkout, but the prices do fluctuate while browsing over the span of a day

While useful, I can't see how it could ensure that the right version of the source code is being presented to the user. In theory, it could analyse all versions of a library, and then choose only those versions that could lead to the g

I was super excited to hear this, but how are they going to check for cylindrical + axis defects? Is it even feasible? Or is the recommendation to visit an eye doctor every two years supposed to cover that? Edit: Their disclaimer at the bot

The few seconds of manual verification can add up, especially when millions of users do it. That effort could be better spent in auditing a middle-man tool and fixing it for the benefit of all.

Only the cost reason makes sense to me. Surely the other reasons (such as transmitivity of Saphire) would have been investigated before putting down .5 billion dollars on the counter. The cost, on the other hand, can be passed down to the c

I wonder if it would have ever reached mass adoption. While stability is important, the performance impact due to context-switches might have been big enough for many use-cases.

I am not familiar with zip file format, but if zip files allow comments or other meta-data (in uncompressed form) then it is an easier path. I suspect even file-names could be an opportunity.

Pre-processing macros can reduce repetition, but they are certainly a hack: They are not type-safe. They are not even syntactically safe. A missing brace in one can cause untoward damage down the chain. And getting it right is especially im

Same here and I went a step further; I use two browsers. The websites where I need to login are in a different browser in a different workspace, so tab-nabbing by random websites can never fool me.

I had good experience with Citadel for an internal mail solution. It's a little old fashioned, but good enough for our needs. The setup was especially easy with the default ubuntu packages.

Ah, thanks for the link. Hadn't checked for code-searchability. The nice thing is bitbucket has an issue tracker for the site. I am sure Github would have a similar list of pet peeves if it had a way to publicly track feature request

Bitbucket has been advancing in many areas. Did a recent evaluation of Github and Bitbucket for an upcoming project. Github's issue management is optimal for small projects. But Bitbucket shines at issue management for large projects:

Good point about JS. But there are potentially more types of media (audio, video, html via frames, etc). Even if a general solution isn't applicable to JS, it can have lots of other uses.

Why stop at images only? A more general solution using CSS-like media queries would be much preferable; with a general solution it would be possible to serve all sorts of assets (CSS, JS, Images, Video, etc) tailored to the display device a
