portage doesn't compile anything. it tells gcc et al to do stuff. the commands it runs are deterministic and the unit tests that portage comes with can easily be used. whether or not some ebuild builds on your machine is kind of betwee

The South Pole of the moon will end up one giant mega city due to it's constant sunlight. It will be a lot easier to get there once there is even one landing strip.

The sync has nothing to do with it's slowness when reconciling dependency conflicts.

Been using Gentoo for over 20 years and have accepted PRs to the repo. I don't get any value from this "no LLMs" stance. In fact it's quite the opposite. I watch extremely famous C devs at work using LLMs all day everyda

Python being a dependency of portage is gentoo's original sin. They have no business calling anything slop with how portage is coded. Truly the epitome of throwing bricks from a glass house.

I think it's time to use an LLM to rewrite portage in C. Might be one of my next projects. Should not take long and the result will be easy to deterministically test side by side.

I know for a fact that some stuff merged into Gentoo is already LLM modified in upstream so their stance is dumb and not even logically consistent.

This happened to me in the middle of the city of Philadelphia when construction of a new apartment building caused a water main collapse. Took them three days to repair. It wasn't anyone's fault. The pipe was simply very old. My w

I think lan parties are set for resurgence since we're almost at the point where a small handheld can run almost any game. What killed lan parties wasn't the internets. It's having to schlep a CRT to my friend's house.

In PHP the array index supports different key types and there's various optimizations that need to happen when the indexes are all numeric, mixed, or all strings or anything else. Technically it's called associative as soon as eve

I'm not ignoring anything. I've already moved on and I don't owe you further debate. No one does. If you don't like it we have a very thorough legal process you can follow.

Without the milk drop plugin it's stable around 175 with all the other plugins. With no plugins it's about 80 mb at idle but the memory usage is higher if there's more processes running.

I don't really want something owned by a company for my local stuff. I'd prefer it be small and minimalistic. Maybe in the future I'll change my mind and it will be more like a browser but for now I wanna keep it small and lo

Calling it not an ORM just cause it implements a DTO is splitting hairs. It's an ORM. If you are hydrating an object that saves to storage and you are manipulating it's life cycle and then casting types between your storage primit
