Maybe a hidden blessing. Just ran into a nasty MSVC auto vectorization bug. Apparently it's hard to get right. https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/t/Bad-codegen-du...

Finds unreachable functions but does not seem to find dead code in sense of unused writes to a variable (unless I misread the article). Guess there's something else that already catches that in Go?

Why does the HN crowd love to leave comments of mean criticism as if it was certain the creator of the submitted site wasn't going to see it? You can levy critique without being rude. Not many are doing this, but it doesn't take m

SHA256 is something like 30 percent slower than MD5. I'd suggest using Adler (what zlib does) for a simple and fast checksum. Then that should, one hopes, be painfully obvious to be a bad fit for anything security related.

Does that mean no registers? Is there still a need for L1/2/3 caches?

Bezos talks about this a lot. Decisions can either be significantly important to get right and worth spending the time to explore fully all the options --- or not so much, but only if the cost of getting it wrong is cheap. The key is realiz

This guy does hour long videos on many large popular YouTubers. I tried watching one but it was so. drawn. out. Is he just creating controversy from nothing?

There's an experimental cpp2 "syntax reset" that aims to provide C++ but with just the modern/better defaults, which reduces the "junk", or needing to know what coding conventions to apply to make actual C++ no

Some audiences prefer a bit longer winded content with some entertainment value. Myself, I wouldn't have clicked on an article that discusses this story even if it would have taken me half the time to read it than watch it.
