Same here with regards to preferring the old Thinkpads for daily use. The trouble as I it is that the great ones are getting really old now, and the newer ones don't seem to be of the same ilk.

I had this realization about 10 years ago when I had to do a shop in an unfamiliar London supermarket on a Saturday. In that circumstance I'm basically doing their warehousing for them with no knowledge of their layout at the same time
