It runs on Heroku and I scale up a single worker process to handle the file transfers, and shut it down when the queue is empty. This drastically reduces the costs – as it's mostly for my personal use, I don't allow multiple workers as a sa

I'd found this site a while ago because I won't load my Dropbox in my work laptop but I often wanted to put files in there. I found it a bit fiddly though and the files I wanted to upload weren't already in my email, they were on the web (e

On the other hand, I work on enterprise apps with 200-500k LOC and maybe 1-2K LOC for test. So "Enterprise" probably isn't a good indicator on test ratios.

It's stupid things like this that have kept me from travelling to the US for work or conferences since 2003. I've actively avoided them. Unfortunately, we'll probably have to attend a wedding in NY next year but I'm not looking forward to t

From the comments, it seems the passwords were hashed but they're (rightly) still concerned. Unfortunately, there still seems to be some confusion about when/if the password reset has taken place, and whether users should change them now, w

I think the clue is in the names: Zurb Foundation would be a good place to start building your site on top of; Twitter Bootstrap is perfect for quickly getting things done. Personally, I used TB because I needed something that looked ok but

It's depressing how little trust you can put in web services these days. I'd considered using SimpleGeo for a project and, like most people who did, it would have been a major component. Phew! Antics like this make me distrust all web servi

IEDR requires a "real and substantive connection to Ireland" although I'd guess Microsoft could get any domain they want. I'm no fan of the IEDR but it's a shame to Microsoft polluting the domain space.
