ah, thanks. That's good to know. I didn't make it to Page 4 (in fact, I didn't even notice the page navigation beneath the author bio -- bad design)

I agree about the encoding problems, particularly when using buffers. No combination seemed to allow me to download a binary file and then upload. But this was my first few hours with Node so I'm open to correction. In the end I was able to

There is a certain point here and there's certainly a huge crossover between engineers and photographers (and also knitters, but that's another story). You need to develop both technical skills and an artistic vision. Engineers by their nat

It sounds great but failed to load on FF3.6 and Chrome (on WinXP). In fact, it seems to fail in more browsers than it actually works in :-/ http://www.myrobotnation.com/helpme?reason=safari

I think he's limited himself by the idea of a physical screen but I nonetheless agree with the sentiment that we should use our computers to give us more time in the physical world, not replace it.

I knew I'd heard of a similar challenge. If I was a cynic, I'd say instagram would take the winning solution and enter it in the DARPA challenge. Crowd-sourced competition entries!

Do you mean "how much a 'regional' crisis affects an internet business based in the US "? I'm pretty sure that if this leads to a break up or two-tier Eurozone, then it is going to touch every business, every where, because economies are l

Oh, it looks like Xtend is to Java as Coffeescript is to Javascript. Although I'm sceptical about it compiling to Java source. Java seems to be going through a period of experimentation, and alternative Java-like and JVM languages. Interest

Phew! That's a good bit of satire because I was just about to complain how it sounded like purposeless VC fodder. BTW, that URL wouldn't work on my iPhone but this did: http://m.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2011/11/jotly-th...

When I saw the title I thought it was about social networks: there are 7bn people in this world and you only care about 70 of them. I imagine that could be equally true.

If a designer had a great idea for a simple app, then yes a Rails for Dummies book would suffice I'd say. So why not the other way round? Also, it's not always the case that a developer has spare money to pay a designer with (the ideal situ

You're obviously right. But I don't want to be a great designer. As I said, I've got by with modifying ThemeForest templates but that's always someone else's design. I'd like to work on my own design fron scratch but, at a minimum, I'd like

Sorry if I came across too negative. I've just got very militant about investing my time/energy/money in things which don't make financial sense. I was also building an app based on weather data do I have some idea of the expenses involved

I'm really looking forward to this book. It seems like the perfect thing for a developer like me. Usually I just buy a template from ThemeForest and extensively modify it but I'd really like to start from a blank page one day.

There's no suggestion that the app will have a subscription cost and yet their data and processing costs are going to continue monthly. It's like a high-tech ponzi scheme. I just don't think it's sustainable so for that reason I couldn't ba

Greece has it's government bonds written down by 50% but next week the Irish government is due to pay €700m to un-guaranteed senior bondholders in Anglo Irish Bank (one of our zombie banks). It beggars belief.

A similar approach (setting up your own CalDav server) might work for lots of other todo/reminder sites. Furthermore, I wonder if there are any other types of services which could be integrated with Siri in this manner
