I think part of the problem in Ireland is the government are now touting internships as a solution to our unemployment/economic problems. In some case, they might work out where there's real training and some level of compensation. It's pro

I work at a large multinational software company where distributed teams have been encouraged across all projects. I live in Ireland and work in/for a U.S. team. Many of the U.S. team also work from home. Recently the edict came down that w

You're totally on the right track. It's not an all-or-nothing thing. Excluding suspect accounts from @-replies and hashtag search results is a nice low-key way to keep the majority of conversations going. It's also subtle enough that the sp

Your work twitter account tweets the same link over and over again? That's pretty odd and frankly doesn't sound like a good use of twitter. But @-replying or tweeting the same link to different hashtags? Spam, spam, spam!

It would require more than 30secs thought but I'm sure there are some heuristics which will work. I'm not even convinced the "report spam" button is connected to any action on twitter's server. And why not use blocking as an indicator? Sure

I think there's definitely potential for an arms-race here (just like there was with email spam) but I don't think it's a reason for twitter to not enter the battle at all.

Twitter's inability to deal with spam accounts is quite bewildering. Tweeting the same link over and over again? Spam. Follow hundreds and no one follows back? Spam. A high percentage of blocks/spam reports? Spam. Every tweet contains a lin

You've made this remark twice now. The fact is that Heroku have always been open this sort of scaling (and there's a fork of delayed_job which does autoscaling of workers on Heroku and... it's written by a Heroku employee. It's regularly

I've taken a similar approach for a few sites. I'm terrible when given a blank page to start from so a theme provides a good base. If the theme isn't already coded using a CSS framework, I'll usually port the design to Blueprint CSS as it

We don't write 1's and 0's. Programming is an abstraction. But we still need to pick and choose what abstractions we use and where. Do the benefits of that abstraction outweigh the problems it creates? In the case of HAML (and ECS, grrr...)
