4 years seems a very long time for development. I'd be interested to hear why, and what you would do differently if you were to start from scratch.

You could put this more nicely - they have spent alot of time working on it. I'm sure no-one intends "BULLSHIT". One way to handle it when something strikes you as not correct is to politely ask for clarification.

Every now and then some major desktop application is released for Linux and seems to hang around for a while before being discontinued. I wonder if same will happen here. It's hard to see the pressing need to support anything except W

In hindsight, what would you have done differently with the architecture of this software? It's got alot of moving parts - do you think it is overengineered?

Real-world software can be messy because sometimes you just have to get stuff done within time constraints.

Why do you need alternative ideas? You could just let her go to what she wants to. We technology people seem to have this built in need to get people to try other things than what they want to do. It's a form of controlling behaviour

RDS is server based - you need to pay to have an instance running per hour. That's not serverless. That's "serverful".

DynamoDB is effectively useless for querying, except perhaps for some sort of highly specialised application able to fit within the DynamoDB strange and arcane query model. What sort of database is effectively useless for querying? Also the

AWS needs something like this. The missing piece for the AWS serverless story is a database that is suitable for writing real world applications. DynamoDB is far from suitable for that task, which leaves AWS serverless with no good databas

It seems to me that money isn't the issue here. The issue is that this guy is a jerk, that's all. Sounds like he has taken becoming rich as a license to set his inner jerk free.

As mentioned elsewhere in this thread, an external metadata database of S3 object immediately introduces synching and validity issues. DOS is smarter than S3.

Yes, but are you sure your database matches the underlying data store? The real problem with building a metadata index outside is that you then have the synchronization validation - yuk.

This isn't such an issue because you can update the DynamoDB index using an AWS Lambda function on every putobject or removeobject event. It's still not something I want to do, mainly because I'd have to touch DynamoDB but se

Its weird how S3 seems to be the unwanted stepchild of AWS. So many obvious innovations just aren't turning up. For example, strangely, AWS introduced tagging for S3 resources, but you can't search/filter by tag, nor is the t
