I've never understood this. If you have a real or de-facto monopoly, why would you jeopardize it by providing poor service/overpricing your product? That just draws attention to the situation. Keep things reasonable and it's

Fair enough; I knew do notation was sugar for bind, but I didn't realize/forgot about the time traveling monad. Follow up questions bc I'm still a Haskell noob: Do you know if async/wait from Control.Concurrent.Async ens

I don't know, it's far from perfect, but is there a better way to do sequencing in a pure functional language? You have to be able to specify order of execution to tackle real world tasks unless you do callback/continuation p

Hey man, I feel your struggle. I haven't abused my Concerta prescription, but I know how easy it is to do it (I have friends who have abused amphetamines). The only advice I can give you (which you almost certainly already know) is to

Disclaimer: this is just my personal views, so I may be missing something here. 'unknown' is almost like saying "We don't know what should be here", while 'none' is closer to saying "We didn't ge

Valid points about the ambiguity in that example, but I do believe 'none' is easier to parse than 'null' for the average person. I'm assuming that none is meant to represent, like null "no input was given"

SML was my first exposure to FP, and while I didn't _really_ get it then, it was responsible for my initial interest in Haskell after graduation. I think SML is a great tool for teaching FP.

Ethnicity is not genetic. It's a social construct that refers to groups based on shared culture / language / nationality. The genetic similarity comes from reproduction among the population as a whole over a period of time. I

Are you implying people wouldn't jump to SteamOS if it met the needs of gamers? If 95% of Steam games ran on it that would be a huge thing. Lots of people don't want to run Windows 10 because of privacy issues (maybe not a huge nu

A key point (perhaps well known but still very important) is the "let mutable" vs "let" for declaring mutable variables. It really does change tendencies of developers by putting the burden of effort on one of two paths,

Depends on what the project is. If parsing is the biggest part of the project then I would say Haskell is top-class in that respect. It has proven success stories. However, due to the lack of control over GC it has latency issues with certa
