I think you maybe have misunderstood the parent (or maybe I did?). They're saying you can't compare an individual's cost to run a model against OpenAI's cost to run it + R&D. Individuals aren't paying for R&

This article reminds me a lot of a conversation with an expert DBA recently. We were talking about performance improvements and he said that upgrading hardware is almost negligible. Upgrading from HDD to SSD gives you 10x boost. SSD to nvme

I've seen this sentiment a lot here. "Once shell is >n lines, port to python". My experience has been different. Maybe half of the scripts I write are better off in python while the other half are exponentially longer in p

If you have a powerful computer at home, you can also offload your ai work to it. It's still local in the sense it's your computer, but it would require network access.

Senior devs generally know how code works, and all senior devs started as juniors. I think the difference is that every annoying/stupid issue turned into a lesson. Now it's one message to ChatGPT and then forgotten about.

You should be glad you didn't. As someone nearing the end of a 2-month journey ripping thousands of blurays, it's sad to see how many simply no longer work. The material degrades and they become unrippable (or DRM prevents it? Or
