If you don't use the benefit, it's effectively compensation that you don't get. I'd much rather a company just pay everyone an extra $30 a month than include a free gym membership that most people won't use. Stuff l

In my experience, it's not a lack of empathy, but trying to prove to management that they shouldn't get rid of the security team. At most companies I've done security testing at, telling management that you didn't find a

I think if it were a sincere apology, they would have apologized for what they did, not just that there were undesirable side effects of their research. The letter is a typical "I'm sorry you got mad" apology that people make

You don't have to use bike/scooter sharing to see that it's an eyesore, or that people frequently drive at unsafe speeds down sidewalks. That's no more self-centered than thinking that you should be able to drive a scoot

Not the first time, unlike what the article says [1]. I don't know if there was any follow-up on the previous case, but a big ethical concern was that human DNA was used to increase their brain capacity, and if they had been allowed to

I think you'd need to decide whether the game is the equivalent of art, or if it's a product designed to reach as many people as possible. That's the one thing I really disagree with GMTK about; not having a ton of accessibil

They're vastly different outcomes, but the article is speculating that giving people stimulus checks is why they didn't kill themselves, while ignoring the increased attempts. From a policy making standpoint, I don't think it

Anecdotally, it's been much easier for me to see my therapist since covid started. Instead of having to take time off work to go to their office, everything is done over the phone.

Personally, I would lump suicide attempts and succesful suicides together in cases like this. I don't think it matters whether or not they succeed, just the fact that things are bad enough that they're suicidal means the pandemic

It doesn't say until a few paragraphs in that the study only covers the early months of the pandemic, and it's pretty misleading to focus only on succesful suicide attempts to try and paint things as not that bad. Overdoses, suici

If you think there's no free will, then how is it barbaric to execute people? No free will means the supporters of the death penalty didn't have a say in the circumstance that led to them supporting it, so there is no moral culpab

Do you have a source for it being a very common belief? My wife grew up in the south, I lived there for years, and neither of us have ever heard anyone mention this. It sounds like something you'd read on a "10 crazy things Christ

Yeah, I think it's the right call as well for any distro that wants adoption. I'd love to use Debian, but even the "non-free" installer doesn't include drivers for my intel wifi card, and I don't think it'

How about how they say that the game will also include every genre, and all of this work will be done by two people? This is an absolute scam.

It was a little of both, but it's not really a valid complaint any more. When Godot first open sourced, it didn't have features like culling meshes that the player couldn't see, and the lighting implementation was pretty basi

It depends on the organization. Most that I've worked with have said everything is fine except for social engineering, but some want to know every tool you'll be running, and every type of vulnerability you'll try to exploit.

I'm just guessing, but it seems like the point of that part is to keep big tech companies from being able to effectively kill off competition by also owning the platforms that competitors would build on.
