I manage a monorepo at my workplace. Different devs with various levels of seniority are on/off boarded on the project, some on mac some on linux. At first I offered mise as the recommended tool, and after a while I declared it's

It doesn't confuse anyone, quite the opposite. The irony for me was my own isolation with the non-tech folks.

Exactly! Hence the "please don't try product design role" advice for me. I seem to live in an all-engineers bubble.

This is amazing and really useful, love the idea; but let me tell you a story, it's a bit of a tangent but relevant enough: In an online language class we were sending the assignments to our teacher via slack, the teacher would then ma

Human communications are more naunced than DB transactions. If I forget to mention something important I send a new message rather than editing the already sent one, to make sure I catch their attention. Edits can go unnoticed. Imagine this

Low code starts failing when one expects it to go turing complete. I also experienced the reverse (unfortunately) a couple of times until I gave up: Can we teach basic python to non-programmers in a 1-week workshop, so they can automate bor

Ah no, sorry I was so lost in my thoughts and explained badly. I was taking in the context of Termux app for Android, nothing to do with proot itself. Termux uses apt and deb repos, and provides a patched proot. I wanted to add a package si

proot works by hijacking and altering syscalls. So maybe you could emulate the symlink yourself, by altering the file paths at ptrace level? Thinking more, maybe it works out of the box? Just mount the overlays (there's a cli flag IIRC

Termux has now a nice wrapper (manager?) for proot [1]. I once wanted to submit a wrapper but got an angry response as the first comment to my PR and it was closed. Guess enough people did that until they decided maybe it's not a bad i

Very interesting read, Thanks! If I'm reading that article correctly, the criticism to Gödel is the same criticism I had for Leibniz: > A proof does not necessitate that the conclusion be correct, but rather that by accepting the ax

True! A tablet and an ext-keyboard do a much better job (Although I wrote bag.sh out of boredom while stuck in a beer-less airport waiting for a delayed flight; I hope I won't have to actively plan for this setup again)

I did something (slightly) similar via proot, called Bag [1], which I must have not described as a docker alternative: It has nothing to do with cgroups, and the cli deviates from that of docker's. The backstory: To bypass internet c

That advice doesn't always work in real life; otherwise for every compiler or linter check in any language, we could drop all those checks and tell the programmers not to do that. E.g. if a base class declares a variable it can potenti

I think makes perfect sense for archiving. I keep hearing tapes last 30 years, while in the same room temperature SSDs last a few years. Just wish I could find a solid source for it!

My impression comes from the switch-to-systemd era too, but systemd was never my problem. It was that my desktop never ran as smoothly as my colleagues' Manjaro and I finally gave up. But you make me think... I should give Arch one mor
