From my experience (I'm a coder), the best work has been done where we adhere to what Zuckerberg called "The Hacker Way". WRT the talk from "Lean Agile" conference... Slightly OT, but Erik Meijer spoke wonderfully a

This is massive. I observe with great interest how it will be handled - Ethereum is still young enough that doing a hard fork can be the sensible choice, and people can agree to do so (since such a large portion of ETH is now owned by baddi

OT The new diff script ( https://github.com/git/git/blob/master/contrib/diff-highligh... ) is juicy indeed. It is written in Perl. The Perl interpreter is available on most UNIX systems, so that'

I would agree to that yes, as are most (all) languages. It would be very nice if the Python version was something specified in the project manifest. Don't know what is the popular build tool in python, but something like specifying the

I am using your blog post about the mark and sweep-GC for my program! Thank you for publishing it! Very informative, entertaining and to-the-point. Thank you!

Since ulisp (lisp for Arduino) came up on HN the other day, I've been trying to implement a lisp in C with garbage collection that will run on my x86 machine (your usual macbook). It being my first ever "real" c program, I&#x

Just out of curiosity - when does Chrome consider a page "loaded"? Is it the classic window.onload or something fancier?

Racket does it so well! I presume Clojure can't, because it is for good and bad tied to the JVM platform, and has to be bothered with classpaths, classes & methods and what I call "the java mindset" of crazy XML-heavy maz

I used to think so when I was new to Clojure. Then I realized that the stack traces just show you the call stack - nothing more, nothing less. I realized the thing that put me off was seeing Java stuff in the stack trace. But this is the be

Off topic: Anyone watch Okkupert (occupied in English)? The French-Norwegian made drama about how a modern European country would act if war were to happen there today (like it kind of has in Ukraine...). http://www.imdb.com

Boot is great. I'm not an idiot developer, and have accomplished quite a few things with code that I'm proud of. But please don't ask me how to setup nrepl with boot+cljsbuild and have the repl run in a browser or on node. I

I do Clojure and Clojurescript full time. Love the ideas, but we as a community need to step up our game when it comes to how easy and fun it is to get started. Setting up a Clojurescript project is even worse than "modern javascript&q

I'm curious to know where the line of a "program" goes. I imagine a OS without file system, but only with functions (like as if emacs was an OS). Would a function then be called a program?

I'm happy to be part of a community, where even when I spew out something ignorant there is a clear explanation that makes sense. Thanks for your answer.

Eh, lisp macros are nothing more than a way to avoid quoting your symbols. Functions are more clear, and do not try to hide what is going on. Honestly wish it was like this: (defun 'my-adder '(x y) (+ x y)) ;; emacs lisp. I'm

It's not technically inferior. I think historically many have confused not-like-java with technically inferior in Javascripts case. Combined with the fact that people who make client-side JS are less Real Developers (no true scotsman w

Neither fit the bill though - because not every function ever written in the language is annotated. To be nice to use, it should be an all-or-nothing affair. I say this as a huge clojure fan - my clojure programs with dynamic types work gre

Elm is typed, Clojurescript is homoiconic. 2 great features. Wondering if you could make a lisp where `lambda` or `fn` required type annotations, such as (defn add [int -> int -> int] ;; type annotation [x y] ;; arg

If only we did not have mutable data structures, there would be no or few problems to find in this. Concurrency isn't hard - try Clojure core/async and you will find out. Shared mutable state is mind-boggingly hard

Any experience doing functional programming without garbage collector? I'm doing a lot of Clojure, and can't really see how it would be a pleasant experience without GC but curious to hear any interesting thoughts.
