The math is pretty simple: the world consumes 36 billion barrels of oil a year and there are like 2 trillion barrels of known reserves. We have enough reserves for 55 years of current consumption. There’s 0 incentive to find more.

Couldn’t this be solved by replacing the tokenized input with a model that outputs the tokenization and then training the entire thing as one larger model? The goal would be to make tokenization a function of the model input.

I don't think "liking" is the correct phrasing. Many jobs _do_ have someone constantly looking over your shoulder to ensure that you're doing to job adequately. These jobs are often low-trust environments often staffed b

Because it would be cool? Like what if a customer wants a drink it doesn't carry? It could order some if there's enough demand. Or if sales are slow, it could try switching up the inventory.

The author should include benchmarks otherwise, saying that UUIDs “increase latency” is meaningless. For instance, how much longer does it take to insert a UUID vs. an integer? How much longer does scanning an index take?

How would Google or OpenAI have alerted you? Anthropic could alert you because they scraped their keys and detected on of their keys in the logs. If anything, it’s bad that Anthropic only notified you about their key, and not the other keys

I remember not being able to get my C++ compiler to work on Windows and I remember struggling to get basic Linux functionality working. Software was hard back then.

I used to feel the same way, but, then I find it weird that the barista has to be there. I get the sense that some people use them almost like a free therapist since they have a captive audience.

Unfortunately, this type of conflict can only be adjudicated by courts, which low-income people don't have the time and money for. You couldn't just walk out of the store with the items. You'd need to either: 1. Buy the items

It seems like this is the type of thing that LLMs would actually excel at though: find a list of citations and claims in this paper, do the cited works support the claims?

Maybe? The loop process of try-fail-try-again-succeed is pretty powerful. Not sure how you get that purely with text completion.

The external side-effects also need to support idempotency keys, which you propagate. Then you use something like a message queue to drive the process to completion.

So if Osama bin Laden was on a small boat in international waters, then it would be “wrong” to attack the boat? Anyway, the point isn’t to justify extrajudicial killings, whether they occur in the Middle East or international waters. The po

If you use War on Terror as justification, then why not use War on Drugs? How many citizens have died due to illegal drugs? How many lives have been ruined?

That sounds absolutely draconian and horrible. But the issue doesn’t seem to be the debt collection. Rather, the issue seems to be a total lack of due process.

Those fees don’t seem unreasonably high to me. I wouldn’t be surprised if the bailiff was operating at a loss given the time it takes to take possession and bring the goods to auction. It’s in the public’s interest to have mechanisms to qui

OP's central claim was that the bike should have been able to cover the debt, but, due to systemic malice on the bailiff's part, the bike only covered small fraction of the debt. My point is that OP is simply over-valuing the bike

Again, the debtor could have sold the bike themselves and they didn't. Bidders could have recognized the bike's value but they didn't. This is a story about OP overvaluing a bike and nothing else.

The point is that, before the bike was collected and put up for auction, the debtor could have sold the bike to pay the debts. Then, once the bike was put up for auction, buyers could have bid on it if it was really worth more. Multiple peo
