Noguchi Hideyo is on the ¥1000 bill, so I think GP just added an extra zero? But that’s odd, since king crab is pretty expensive. I’d be suspicious of any place serving it for ¥1000!

> Note that managing resources is much harder when swap is in the picture, because you can get the resident memory of a process, but not the swap usage of a process. Why can you not get swap usage? It’s in smaps, right?

Yeah, maybe calling them pow3, pow5, pow7 would be a bit clearer? But a 10s search for a comment cleared it up, so I don’t really see the problem...

Not always: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pablo_Escobar%27s_hippos Although I think that’s because people object to killing them. But that could also happen with megafauna.

I just found this [0] paper about the development of the Tsukuba Express, one of the more recent train lines into central Tokyo. Land owners whose land is taken away are given new plots of land that are smaller, but closer to stations. Thes

Even native speakers run into this a lot. There are words that are quite rare in spoken English but more common when writing. And then you hear someone else pronounce it and it’s completely different than how you say it, and you’re both not

That might be down to preference. French croissants tend to be crispier, saltier, less sweet, and more sour (from the cultured butter) than Japanese croissants. But you can get French style croissants in Tokyo, Maison Landemaine [0] in Ropp

In Japanese, you would usually say オレンジ色 (orenji-iro), orange colour, オレンジ being a foreign loan word. But the older way to say the colour is 橙色 (daidai-iro), where daidai is Japanese for orange. I have no idea what caused this shift between

They don’t call the F-22 and F-35 fifth generation fighters for no reason. There have been many iterative improvements since the ME-262 and Gloster Meteor that would not have happened without the intermediate steps.
