Seems to me that having a physiological pattern which forces you outside the normal rhythm of society could be detrimental to one’s mental health (pure conjecture).

Sorry, but the US is a constitutional democratic republic with generally functioning rule of law, while the other is an a mercantilist-authoritarian-dictatorship with absolutely ZERO legal accountability to its citizens. By conflating patte

I’d personally be fine to participate the US style work ethic if it results in a more competitive economy, more innovation, and greater total opportunity for the minority who are willing and able to undergo greater stress and risk to build

Chuckled at this. But honestly I find debugging the “native” side of RN apps much more painful than any type of web development I’ve had experience with. Then again perhaps I’ve never worked with a 100% pure native app so would love to hear

Agreed with your last point. The US didn’t fund European security due to its kind nature. Rather, it was due to realpolitik concerns that there would rise another violent, genocidal European hegemon bent on world domination which would inva

I’m not arguing that the US healthcare system is more efficient (it definitely isn’t). I’m arguing the political and economic conditions present in post-91, EU-integrated, unified Germany were only made possible in part by constant military

Agreed on your first point. Although I think massive US defense spending during the Cold War was the primary factor in deterring the Soviets from tank rushing the Fulda Gap (and Soviet domination of Europe in general). I think it’s pretty c

I’ll probably get downvoted for this, but a strong argument can be made that the European welfare state has only been made possible due to massive US defense subsidies and economic stimulus during the post WWII/Cold War. This doesn’t m

“America's permanent war-time footing exists because of the lobbying practices of interest groups and horse-trading among members of the Congress and Senate” Please elaborate. Genuinely interested on your take on this.

I think collectivism in the context of labor is definitely something people should have access to if they want it. This is why national sovereignty is a wonderful thing. That being said, many regulations and rules around labor can hinder hi

I live in SF. Agree that there are many reckless scooter and e-bike users. To offer another anecdote, everyday I see Uber/Lyft drivers stopped in the middle of traffic, parked in red zones, and driving 10-15 mph under the speed limit.

I’d offer a (friendly) counter point. Trusting in the benevolence of a union is very similar to trusting in the benevolence of your employer to watch your back. Both employers and unions ultimately devolve into parochialism. Both ultimately

I’m curious which city you’re in. Not that it’s this simple, but it seems to me that any one of those electric bike-share users would otherwise be contributing to localized and global pollution and congestion through the use of a car. Addit

Would you accept this “bug” if it happened every 1 in 10,000 times? 1 in 10,000,000? Obviously not a desirable outcome but let’s be precise about what our acceptable tolerances are for errors. It’s unrealistic in any complex system to have

Truckers will absolutely become more careless, because when their money (and their employer’s money) depends on how many miles you can push in a set time period, there will be the ultimate incentive to be careless and push the limits.

I don’t have any hard numbers or studies. I am inferring this from the fact that the ATA and trucking lobby hasn’t made a hard push to relax FMCSA safety regulations. Large motor carriers were the first to adopt ELD. They know what regulati

A fatal accident can cost a trucking company over 1mil USD. The ATA (American Trucking Association) lobbies heavily to allow under 21-year-olds to carry freight over state lines. There’s no talk about in the upper echelons of US trucking to
