Obama is very well in touch with the tech generation. He was the first presidential candidate to really put social media to use and his recent AMA on Reddit shows he is still able to relate. The JOBS Act didn't hurt, either.

The entire iOS UI is an app picker. If you want an app picker in Android, click the menu button. If you want more than that, buy an Android.

Almost everyone I know who uses a tool for tracking their finances uses Mint. They do not have an API that I am aware of, however. It appears Yodlee may be something you'd be interested in.
