I agree on best tool for the task at hand, however can you elaborate on your second comment? Why do you think a Scala backend can be more trouble than it's worth?

Just a couple of comments: On (2): There is a number of Play Swagger plugins (e.g. https://github.com/swagger-api/swagger-play ), each with different approaches. On (3): DI can actually be quite practical. Use different

What do you think of upgrading incrementally via each minor versions (e.g. 2.0 -> 2.1 -> 2.2, etc.)? It will be easier to reason (and debug) the changes between each version, and test compatibility on the dependent libraries. PS. I h

NTLM auth is but one of various other roadblocks in a corporate environment. In my previous job, the company runs a MITM proxy, it broke SSL checks for package managers. You ended up having to disable SSL checks and load up company-issued

I... Love Scala. It's just a really flexible language, while it has its warts, I feel they almost got it in combining the best of FP and OO. I was a SharePoint developer in previous life. End-users love SharePoint, but it's a head

It's users vs developers. 1.7% of respondents are WP users (10% x 17%), and only 0.1% of respondents are WP developers.

True, but it will not be the only tool in the toolbox... So taking into account all the other software you've purchased, the costs will add up. Just an anecdotal example, before JetBrains switched to their subscription model I was payi

As I understand it, because it comes with less bloat than its predecessors (i.e. more focused library). From the blog post itself: "ASP.NET Core and .NET Core come with the great advantage of only including the libraries and functi

I just moved to Singapore from Australia, I suppose it really depends on the company. I was fortunate enough that the company adopts a `Western` work culture. I work 9-6 with 1 hour of lunch. Very rarely people stay back more than 6:30 PM.

Just to add, you might not benefit from the lower income tax in Singapore when migrating from the US due to the Double Tax Agreements between Singapore and US (i.e. you'd have to pay for the tax difference between the Singapore and US

Good point. I suppose this could be a reason why they require a third party (the telcos) to block access to WhatsApp, as they are operating under Brazilian law.

Politics got in the way. Plus, Labor should have done a better job communicating the value of (FTTH) NBN. The average people in Australia think NBN is just to watch YouTube in HD.

With the risk of being viewed as a Turnbull apologist, re: NBN I think he's just trying his best to work with the cards he's been dealt (i.e. compromise). It is unfortunate that the NBN was one of the key points of the campaign, w

There is no such thing as bug-free app, and I do not agree for 100% code coverage (rather write test for what's important to you, i.e. prioritise). However, tests gives you a higher level of confidence when you perform refactoring. PS.

I don't necessarily use TDD all the time, but I think it provides significant value. A key one is to help guide developers break down complexity. This is quite apparent especially when I conduct pair programming interviews. Developers

Rather disappointed that R9 290(X) won't be supported in the new Open Source drivers. Currently I have the 290 paired with a Corsair H100i closed loop cooling, unfortunately there's no option to do the same with R9 390(X) (yet). H

If you need IIS, I doubt that you can get away without virtualisation. The easiest path is to use something like VMWare Workstation and run Windows as a VM. You can pin Visual Studio to the sidebar, and click to run it like it was made-for-
