I thought the maps they made were of the neighborhood of stars around Tau Ceti, marking their respective home stars with the petrova line.

It's been a long time since I played, but I don't recall the motion of the planets mattering much. Supercruise lets you move fast enough that planets and moons that move enough to be noticeable are very easy to get to regardless.

IIRC at the time the book was written, there was some data suggesting a planet detection around 40 Eridani, but has been ruled out since then.

Where does this idea that the right is saying that men are good come from? They hate most men for not being white, and they consider white men that don't follow their chauvanistic methods as being weak cuckolds.

I think an LLM trained on pre-calculus material would easily stumble into reinventing at least early calculus. It's already pretty easy for students to stumble into calculus from solid enough fundamentals. We even think that the Babylo

Keeping the orbits low enough, and/or intentionally going suborbital after docking/before starting the fuel transfer, will make the chances of that being possible very low. It's also worth considering that they have demonstra

It's really funny to be declaring the idea of 3d printers being ubiquitous as dead because they weren't a smartphone scale change in how the world works, while pretending that 3d printers aren't more common and accessible tha

I'm still having a ton of fun with computers, even moreso with the advent of halfway usable AI. Being able to plug a little intelligence into software with little effort makes many things a lot more convenient. One of my favorites is h

But since it's already open source and popular among tech savvy people, they have to weigh any attempts at increasing profits against the risk of losing customers to a fork.

>The bar our department sets for a PhD is that at the end of it, you should be a world expert in your specific topic. In my opinion and from my experience, this is an odd expectation considering that a PhD is the absolute beginner career

I agree that they can be a trap, but I think that is remedied by requiring a small project proposal step. Ensures that students have a plan, that the goals are achievable, and can help to spread out the project's points. Also helps whe

This isn't about AI, it's about research funding and what the guys in charge think about science and education.

I don't consider it loyalty to know a friend has cheated, and let them get away with it. Teachers/Professors are already used to accommodating dumb planning/mistakes from students. An honest "I spent too much time partyi

I feel like that anxiety has been a thing with regard to education for a while. Worrying about bad grades following you through life has been a thing for much longer than the internet's existence. I think the issue is largely that in t

This fits with my priors. I was in grad school during covid and had some professors I was close to (and whose class I was taking) reach out asking for feedback on their exam because students were blatantly cheating despite the allowances th

I have to draw a very sharp line in generating these kinds of tools, I treat them as single use throwaway things and do my best to never have anyone besides myself even see the tools themselves (e.g. reviewing some calculation results). E

Your category of "nerds who care" is actually "nerds who only want to be coders" and not "nerds who care about solving problems".
