That’s a good point you bring up...where do we draw the line? Lots of projects use Debian and docker, etc...is it even ethical to donate to an npm package before donating to the dozens of free tech layers node sits on top of?

Since when are FAANG companies considered to be closed source? Have any of them snatched up maintainers to continue development behind closed doors? There are examples of large corporations hiring maintainers to work on open source and keep

But that’s the point isn’t it? Goland clearly goes above and beyond what free and open source can provide, so don’t feel like you’re getting ripped off paying for an IDE.

I'd be curious to see what the idle temperatures land on.

Btw, I also highly recommend a case cooling case for the rpi4. I got the aluminum one at https://flirc.tv but I think anything like it will do. It dropped the idle temperature by quite a bit. I think it went from ~75ish to about

Thanks for that. That intro was anemic, even for laypeople. Sounds like you still need a server unless you use local storage.

I'm trying wireguard at the moment for the always on feature. Setup was absurdly easy.

by heyoni 7y ago
Wireguard is its own protocol separate from IPSec or l2tp right?

Are you guys vpn’ing on your phones too? Do you just use the built in vpn connection profiles? I’m having trouble getting mine to stay connected to a plain old IPSec tunnel running on my raspberry pi and thinking I probably need a special c

Hmm...maybe it should be repackaged into a Saas product with a monthly, per user license!

Ok I think I get it, but if your backend is say, making a single API call and sending that result back to the user, then there's no advantage to going async since the user has to wait for that network call anyways, right? Would you use

by heyoni 7y ago
Do frameworks need to be asynchronous or is it good enough to just spawn threads for background tasks?

This book is such a gem. I really liked the one about async by Guido

Absolutely. I think we should shut down the stock market until we get to the bottom of it.

Or maybe we’re cutting down on cognitive overload because we can’t independently dig down into a rabbit hole each and every time we read an article. Also, none of what was said contradicts the notion that the wage gap is getting wider.

The same argument could be used to say that it’s completely unreasonable for a CEO to make x amount more money than their average employee. If you can shoulder being somewhat responsible for 10,000 employees’ work, you get your 8 figure sal

Is it an option to take a "chill" job and take a break from climbing the ladder? Programmers are in such high demand, there are places where you can go and clock out at 5pm, take an hour for lunch and never take your work with you
