Aren't there already ads that are supposedly game-like? "Click on the bouncing ball and win $$$", things like that. Personally I avoid clicking on anything ad-like, to avoid pop-ups and generally having the flow of my web browsing interrupt

I wouldn't describe the site so harshly, but a little bit of the human touch would make a big improvement. Right now you have 40 or so links on the home page, each one leading to a sub-site with 50 sections or so, totaling ~300 links that l

Maybe in the case of AOL they offer those free email accounts to Americans only so they can guarantee a more homogeneous audience to their advertisers.

I still think SVN and Norman are in violent agreement. Look at the Southwest Airlines example. I agree with mixmax, this is mostly for marketing purposes. Not that there is anything wrong with that...

I have a hard time believing that a platform that doesn't allow for beige boxes and software (ahem) sharing can become dominant. I can see the iPhone making a mint, defining the future mobile platform even -- kind of like the Apple II and t

The MS-centric press does seem a little insular sometimes -- more Mount Athos than United States in some occasions. All the recent Silverlight hype ("the Internet has just been rebooted by Microsoft!"). Or the articles trying to convince pe

For what it's worth, I have 15 years of Unix work experience and I don't think I saw any tar file until graduating (my university was a mostly-DOS shop). I learned mostly on the job... man vi was painful... but now I can't use an editor for
