I only bring it up because a lot of people do "try to stick it through to an exit" only due to that bias. It's a sad waste of talent. EDIT: In fact, I think that whole section should say the opposite: "2. Refusing to quit with unexercised

Very good post, aside from this: "So if you join a startup and don’t exercise, you should probably try to stick it through to an exit." No. If you're thinking of quitting, presumably an exit which will make you rich is not imminent. Hang

Nathan, we'd love to hear your postmortem on BackType's experience with Neo4J, and how Sphinx is turning out.

This sounds great. This is the traditional realtime processing use case: process messages and update a variety of databases. Question: I typically think of real-time as a need for user-facing things, i.e. handling a user's requests before

Riordan said the computer science department could be doing more... in terms of forging ties with technology leaders... It's funny, WWU CS has a repuation for being a very pro-Microsoft department. Not sure what's really going on here.

I was making a joke using communist terminology. To be more direct, I don't think Steve is casting a dark cloud over the community, in fact the opposite metaphor is better: he's bringing some important issues to light.

I think the term you are looking for is 'wreckers'.

... the Racket library is immense... It is very impressive by the standards of relatively unpopular languages. Also the documentation is really good. But if Racket's libraries are immense, what is Ruby's and Rails'? Mega gargantuan?

Please be nice. jbooth, if you try Haskell out you'll be very surprised. It's often true - it's just that it takes a lot more work to get a Haskell program to compile.

Ran into a lot of problems with Neo4J and rewrote it later using Sphinx Really? I'd love to hear more about this.

Actually, that's not what he's talking about. He's saying that they only do something about lack of process or messy code or whatever when it starts to hurt them. It's strictly internal.

Clojure has Leiningen for library versioning / package management / builds. It's excellent.

Thanks for this. I didn't know about update-in. Are there other 'update' functions? However, it's a good thing you want a DAG, because with immutable data structures you're hosed if you want a cyclic graph. Or at least you won't be build
