Obviously the big win here is in the long tail: high school sports, rec leagues, etc.

Who knows if this is true, or what the full story is, but in general I think this kind of tactic is poisonous to a company. Please read this: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1629201 (I just re-read that. Such an excellent post.)

That's a really good idea. What's the diagnosis and what is your view on it that you want to get across? (If you don't mind me asking.)

I get the impression that this is heavily influenced by everyone else's analysis of Steve Jobs. Disappointing but not surprising.

You'll very rarely see the sunset from here though. Let me clarify what smokestack is saying. The weather in the Sunset district is reliably foggy and cool or chilly. Most people don't like it.

This was announced a year or two ago, right - is there anything new there? EDIT: OK, that was Gliese 581 C. This is the new best hope.

That Clojure's target is to replace slow old Ruby (actually that never happens, rather a successful language gains dominance in some niche and spreads from there) is only more evidence that it isn't worth breaking the abstraction called "nu

I've been wondering for a while why Google and others don't put data centers in Iceland. Electricity there is almost free of charge and has zero carbon footprint - in fact zero emissions of any sort. (It's geothermal.) The location is re
