Lazy-loading is usually the default ORM setting, so you wouldn't pull in any extra tables by default. You can setup Eager-loading on a per-query basis (i.e I know I'll need it here) or just set up certain relationship to always ea

But now I need a developer with >6months of experience in that particular ORM to maintain my app, instead of just someone who knows SQL. Nothing is free.

If you actually have to reckon with the SQL queries in your app, N+1 becomes less likely. Consider `rows.map { row -> repository.fetchRelatedRow(row.id) }`. That's much more obviously going to cause issues than `rows.map { row.relat

Object Relational Mappers like the one Django use are a whole topic of debate unto themselves. They strive to map SQL concepts into a more code-friendly domain. Rows are represented as objects, references become attributes of those objects

Honestly what you describe is less likely to run afoul of antitrust law than hiring some firm who has all that data to tell you what salary to offer. At least you are looking at data and competing, not just paying some consultant to tell yo

Marketing in a space like phones where Apple is trying desperately to differentiate is intrinsically tied to product design.

If you do go this freelancer route I would assume that there will be no code to maintain long-term. The freelancers should be building a prototype, not something intended to last decades. Either the freelancers work out and you begin hiring

This is a classic developer vs business incentives misalignment. Developers don't want to ever be paged because they don't want to be bothered, but the business might be perfectly happy to pay you to be on firewatch duty. Consider

Depending on the stakes this is a pretty dangerous attitude. The goal for oncall is to keep the website working, and if you're tuning for "never get paged" then you'll necessarily miss an incident eventually.

It's less that working at a FANG produces better devs and more that FANG can afford to be picky and so having worked there is a sign you passed a high hurdle once. Kinda the same idea as having Harvard or Stanford as your alma matter.
