Interesting to see that the (scathing) TNR article didn't make it to the front page, while the founder's blog post received 645+ upvotes.

This kind of complexity is only really needed for library writers... e.g. someone writing a package for Boost. Your run-of-the mill application code in C++ will probably stay away from this kind of wizardry.

Next time Keurig should hire a cryptographer. GPG signed QR-codes or something similar (vulnerable to replay attack, but harder to circumvent).

Yep - kind of like active hard-drive protection [0]. I could imagine stop-lights turning red at major intersections, elevators stopping and opening at the nearest floor, BART trains coming to a stop, etc. [0] - http://en.wikipedi

Another way to look at this is that it is based on Microsoft's internal distributed systems infrastructure and thus will never be open-sourced for the same reason Google will never open-source Spanner, Megastore or Colossus. Having bat

As someone who has used TSX to optimize synchronization primitives, you can expect to see a ~15-20% performance increase, if (big if) your program is heavy on disjoint data access, i.e. a lock is needed for correctness, but conflicts are ra

Escape analysis, dead code elimination, and function inlining are standard optimizations taught in an undergraduate compilers course. Go is cool, but I wouldn't really cite those as justifications for why.

Simple, CockroachDB is a CP system, while Riak is an AP system. If you need multi-key ACID transactions, and can tolerate potential downtime in the event that some partition loses a majority of its Raft replicas, you might want to use Cockr

Not to be a curmudgeon but why would one want to use Rust for web development for a non-toy project? I am a big fan of Rust, but as it aims to be a better C++, it is probably a better fit for OS development, game engines, embedded systems,
