The 13th gen apparently has dramatically better battery life, which is great since the battery life otherwise prevented me from buying one. They spent a lot of time optimizing it both in hardware and software.

This case looks great. Love that we have replaceable graphics on this one. I’m most excited for the ortholinear keyboard attachment. That makes it a must-buy for me, since after switching to a Kinesis Advantage I just can’t type on a stagge

We use it for devshells, and it’s awesome. New devs install nix and direnv and they instantly have all the right versions of all of our tooling. A first day setup process is now done in minutes instead of a day. Flakes made it possible for

Potentially ActivityPub fixes this. I can comment and like on any Lemmy/kbin server from my own account on a totally different server. If we wanted a forum, it would just need a new UI layer fit for purpose, reminiscent of phpbb, and b

You can also use something like zigup to make fetching the latest master/managing multiple versions easier.

Using plus(a,b) for complex types sounds fine to me… I have to imagine if I were working with a huge file of these for a while it would start to feel normal, just like every language has a different syntax but you eventually feel comfortabl

Sure, for now. Until people are accustomed to this system and it's just a "small update to policy" they hope goes unnoticed in 12 months' time. Quite literally the same company is trying to neuter adblocking with Manifes

I guess I don’t understand why you feel they’re “forcing it on users.” Just don’t look at the results it generates or use ublock origin to filter the AI response off the page?

This weekend I used ChatGPT to: 1. Help select a data structure for a very specific use-case given certain constraints, generate a first pass of the code, and help debug it. 2. Recommend a recipe for the exact set of ingredients I had on ha

Having managed both in production at decent scale for years, I would not choose MySQL for any projects going forward. Postgres has been more dependable in its performance, more powerful in its features. There’s no “pro” to choosing MySQL th

I think you're right. My hope was that it could reason through the problem using knowledge from related sources like C and an understanding below the syntax of what was actually happening. But it most certainly did not.

My experience with GPT-4 has been really disappointing. It didn't feel like a step up from 3.5. As an example, I've been trying to use it to learn Zig since the official docs are ... spartan. And I've said, "here's

I’d like to chime in on the all-fields-are-public debate. If I’m a library author and release something which exports a struct… I can never change any of the struct’s internal data structures? I can never rename a field. Or delete a field.

It’s quite simple, really. Startups should buy hundreds of millions in gold, then stash that under 160,000 different mattresses to diversify risk of a systemic bank collapse. If Bogglehead retirees can figure that out, why not startups?
