I do a lot of hobby video editing and restoration. Got tired of some of the processing taking literal days on my old system so got this one. So much faster lol.

SMS needs to stay. It works without functional data unless some carrier really screws the pooch. I’ve had to revert to it numerous times at random especially in BFE to get in contact with a client or my wife etc. no data? But signal? SMS. O

I would have agreed with you on this if it weren’t for the fact I have noticed a lot of newer systems (granted, running windows) having sustained 80-90% loads and when I got to investigate they are several steps from max frequencies. These

You are adorable. Yes, iOS is a black box hellscape. Android less so. And webapps are the epitome of walled garden. The programs literally require a host server to function. All you get is front end. I take your point on accessibility. And

I’m obviously not talking about programs who’s primary function is some sort of network usage. But if it’s a desktop app that does desktop things but still requires a network connection for a completely inane reason I don’t use it. I hate t

Please show me a completely offline web app that’s worth a damn. I’m unaware of any. Also, “completely offline webapp” is such a damn oxymoron lol.

90%+ CPU load at... what frequency? That rule doesn't make a lot of sense unless you are meaning "90%+ load while sustaining maximum core clocks"

I have a i9-13900K with just a noctua air cooler and itll happily churn along with cores loaded at 5.5-5.8ghz on the performance ones and whatever peak is on the efficiencies (I have forgotten off the top of my head) and it sits around 89C.

my i9-13900K can sustain 6.4ghz on 4 cores with just a Noctua air cooler for a minute or two before having to throttle down some due to heat.. And that is just a decent air cooler. People have this weird view of modern chips. Yeah, they &#x

I love people saying its a waste and too much power blahblah. It isn't going to pull /320w/ all the time. It will periodically, under certain loads, briefly. My i9-13900K happily slams into 6.4ghz across multiple cores when d

Because they end up migrating more and more functionality to their web side? Deprecating desktop or mobile app functionality or entirely. So you end up with piss poor “web apps” that half the time require a specific browser to work remotely

Yay. More ways for people to force webapps upon us. I miss when the web was essentially a document viewer.

Myth 10 really cracks me up. I'm 99.999% sure Fortran will still be the choice for a lot of things 200 years from now. lol.

Human's have this bizarre need for there to be binary in everything. It's always "What is the problem?" "This thing is/does/acts X so it is/will be Y!" It is so damn tiring.

Paint.net is in my collection of programs that I always install right after a fresh Windows installation :) Great app for basic editing needs. I use it in conjunction with IrfanView.

I don’t think so. I’ve always bought /really good/ motherboards and then adequate CPUs etc to abuse. And upgrade later.

Have you… contacted them? They seem pretty responsive. They’ve already shipped two batches. I’m hoping to order one soon.

What… is the point of node editing? Current image editing is only destructive if you save over the original file? What am I missing? This seems way more tedious than just making the changes like in Lightroom.

Yep. Not to mention everything now is actively sending constant “metrics” to home base etc. I’ve physically disabled the onStar on my Volt just so there’s no phoning home at all. But it’s damn near impossible to do that on anything newer. A
