If the developers can only get it to run in a pile of ubuntu containers, then it's extremely likely they haven't thought through basic things you need to operate a service, like supply chain security, deterministic builds, unit te

Yeah, but 0-60 doesn’t really matter much for EVs at this point. Even big suv/trucks are hitting supercar numbers from a few decades ago. Cornering / handling matters. So does tire wear, and how powerful the regenerative brakin

In fairness, ICE engines have been able to provide too much horsepower for those use cases for a long time. Cutting the motor weight probably matters more for smaller vehicles than bigger ones though.

You’d need to add back in an all wheel drive powertrain. A typical drive shaft is 20 to 50 pounds (9 to 23 kilograms) The motor is high torque, so I’d expect the drive shaft to be on the heavier end of that. I’m not including the other pow

Tangentially related: I was getting awful screen tearing in dosbox with a gl @ 4K@60hz rendering target. Switching to 1080p@240Hz fixed it. The problem was that 60Hz was close to, but not the framerate the old game asked for.

Instead of using obviously corrupt measures of sustainability (that have been intentionally broken and game-able for decades) why not calculate net CO2e? (Or, better, add a toggle to the UI. That will highlight how broken carbon markets an

The easiest approach is to charge for greenhouse gas emissions at the source. Set the price to be 2x the cost of direct air carbon capture, then put the money in a fund that pays for cheapest environmentally responsible capture first. This

Choice of things like desktop environments matters a lot. I’m using xfce or lxde or something (I can’t tell without checking top), and responsiveness for most stuff is identical between 2010 intel and a ryzen 9. The big exceptions are thin

But, why do we want to tie the agent to the user’s identity? The interface the user wants is “I pay for and obtain pizza”. The interface the pizzaria wants is “I obtain payment via credit card, and send a pizza to some physical location”.

The article says they cost ~ $0.05/kwh. Does that include installation + foundation work? Presumably, they need to anchor these pretty well to withstand 110-170mph wind. I’d guess a lot less per-site engineering (and geological surv

For one VM, EBS with backups gives you business continuity. You could get manual failover with a single writer replicated managed Postgres setup and a warm VM. That’s on the order of a thousand a month for a medium workload. It’s probably
