Good idea! An app to create and manage these gift card/vouchers with specific window of expiration. By limiting the window of validity the shop can prevent too many gift cards to be valid at once (limit over sell of time slots for a se

Air travel in crammed tiny metal and composite tubes for long periods that need to be turned around in a jiffy thus may be subject to deficient cleaning is most def a vector. For the long term it would great to design airplanes that have a

I've been using postgraphile over hasura for while, initially because of some JWT business. That thing rocks. RBAC and JWTs are a killer feature for public facing stuff. Congrats to the folks at hasura for the raise, long live postgres

FEAT>> Nested virtualization on intel. This is a big deal, for dev and testing. Congrats to the devs, thank you. You can now run a hypervisor hosting real vms at decent speeds inside VB.

good points with regards to 1912. But li-ion batteries that are also gyro flywheels, and breaking regen energy storage, isn't that an interesting idea?

why not use the mass of the battery as the gyro's flywheel (s)? You could also store energy (accelerate this mass on breaking) for even better regen (I presume recharge breaking is less efficient than the 95 efficiency of current tract

FWIW, I wrote a small script for remote dev called duplexrsync, love it so far. https://github.com/francoisp/DuplexRsync Haven’t tested on win10 yet but it should work, no language limitations and it’s 150 lines of ope

Good thinking. You are right that there's a short window between the 2 rsyncs that allows for a newly-created file being created at say the remote end just after (or maybe during? --would need to test) the remote-local rsync that would

(author here) Hey thanks for the scrutiny! I'm using the -u option in rsync, preventing overwriting newer changes. So in your described case, it will signal a change remote (a lot of changes, but collapsed every 3 seconds) sync remote-

well if you can get bash, ssh, fswatch, rsync and socat we could get something going... ;-) For iOS coda is pretty good. I've used Codeanywhere for android; 2-way sync would need to be integrated in the app itself on these platforms, I

More than 2 end points would be a bridge too far for this simple script. With regards to fswatch, from what I gather, it blocks a iotcl call on all the files in your watched folder. This script fires rsync (always from the local end to prev

I had never come across that one either, thanks for the link! It does look a little on the heavy side for my use case, but it might come in handy at some point! It looks like it has all the bells and whistles. Cheers.

Hum a day old might be early to say, but the sync is handled by rsync and that has been around for ages, corruption due to rsync would be surprising. (although hash and adler32 checksums collisions are theoretically possible.. :-)

(author here) Interesting, thanks for the link! I had never seen this one. It does look a bit more heavyweight; that might be a good thing for some use cases. I currently use this on many different containerized setups, so simpler and less

hey! thanks for your comment! I wrote this yesterday because I wanted the read speed of a local copy, hot-reload of the remote side app, and the ability to edit at both ends. I came across fswatch, I've been quite impressed; it does a

I wonder if some of last quarter's profit is being poured in producing op-ed pieces to attempt to slow the traffic bleed... My son and his buddies call them fagedbook and instagramma.

The lineup. They have 13(!) iPhone models(not configs!) in production. SJ would be furious. The first thing he did when he came back in the late 90s is to cut the line to 3 models. Economies of scale and concentration of innovation at a si

Left CentOS about 4 years ago for Ubuntu, never looked back. Debian is a better system, Ubuntu is a very nice consistent distro. You should check out Proxmox, also debian based, very nice alternative for containers in small-medium deploys.

I think it's an organic reaction that makes a lot of sense. A distributed deflationary currency not run by any central authority is a dangerous concept. Another volatile store of value that might not be very liquid is a lot less danger
