Well you'll learn if typedef is supported pretty quickly, when you hit enter after your compile command. As for the malloc's and various memory allocators, learn malloc and free, the rest are convenience methods, which you can live without.

If you know C++ in depth, you aleady know C at a professionally usable level, or at least get there with a couple of projects. C is a subset of C++ anyway. True, there are minor differences hera and there, but shouldn't really be deadly. I

You are right, but they are still useful if comparing two sites targeting the same demographic. Reddit vs Techcrunch is OK, so is Facebook vs Twitter. Reddit vs Twitter probably not so much.

How about recommendations like "people who write like Bukowski enjoys Burgess"? Of course the author names are links to your affiliate program. BTW, the banner at the bottom of your site is taking ages to load.

It is an algorithm, you could have patented it if it wasn't prior art. The more trivial your algorithm, the more the chances it's prior art.

Programs may or may not be implemenations of algorithms. Not every program is an algorithm. I suspect in this day and age of frameworks, libraries and all, a big majority of code is void of any algorithmic work.

The idea of using a computer program to sort integers is not patentable. A way to sort integers quicker is patentable. For a real lif example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T_258/03

Or develop a piece of software(a Firefox extension?) which will fix bad grammar and raise to fame among grammar nazis. Scratching your own itch versus learning to live with it.

The real fragmentation was in the UI level for a long while. Remember UIQ and S60? This led to half assed ownership of documentation and developer relations. Funny how business models have impacts on products.
