In New Zealand I understand they only hibernate between 2 and 5 years. Growing up I heard them all the time. Hence my surprise to hear of these really long hibernation times in other places.

Years ago GPS had indeed two modes of operation. However, also years ago, they announced they were dropping that civilian mode and everyone had the higher accuracy. Unless maybe there was another level. Last year I saw a guy making measurem

Nice article and lovely piece of kit that one from sparkfun. Will likely be getting one next year to further my experiments with gunshot localization, on my Pi-based sound localization platform ( https://github.com/hcfman

You know the West also uses Glonass. The newest consumer GPS receivers are set to use multiple GNSS systems.

Actually everyone is moving towards guilty unless caught out. In the Netherlands they fight crime with an unaccountable organisation called the RIEC that doesn’t need any evidence to carry out what it calls interventions against even comple

And guess what. I tried like hell to sue the government, this is only viable through your legal insurance. They said no chance. No second opinion lawyer said decent chance. The insurer said again I can't make a case, they are allowed t

Accountability is everything. They talk about accountability but they don't even want that for themselves. Here in the Netherlands, I was caught in the crossfile of unaccountability way against marijuana. My neighbor was arrested, proc

There's a funny/sad story about the first person in the UK to be jailed for not giving up his password under new at the time laws in the UK. He was a person crossing the channel with mental health problems. He was stopped and he h

This is so true… and stuff disappears from the internet news a lot. In Europe they have laws that are invoked a lot that should be renamed to the right to politicians to remain unaccountable. Privacy is portayed by the authorities as someon

If it syncs time accurately by any method maybe you are able to localize some very interesting events! The localization code I provide with my project should fine with times obtained from this project. I seriously doubt whether that project

I hadn’t seen that. It uses a pi so in principle it could sync the time the same way. How well related to localizable recordings would also depend on how it establishes the actual time arrival with the clock and how it deals with jitter. Cu

Indeed, except if you run an in-memory overlay filesystem this might change dramatically for you. I have several Pi's that run for years and years without SD card corruption this way. Normally, however, as in my sbts-aru project, I don

Ah okay. Because I found that the default start order of gpsmon and chrony was incorrect meaning that the shared memory communications wasn't working but there were no error messages stating this. So sometimes, it would sync (slowly) a

You could buy an rtc and put up with that kind of clock drift, or.... for the same money or less you could be a GPS and have none of that drift.

I also use wireguard a lot. I didn't know that clock sensitivity could be an issue here. I've never seen an issue before. Now that I know it could be one I'll make a point of deploying all cellular based systems with a GPS sy

If you have good sky visibility, then I don't need an antenna. Though this often tends to mean putting a Pi outside. I'm also using just the first Antenna I find actually.
