As someone who wants to be there for my friends, what does this mean? What does "jumping in" entail? I assume it means continuing to be social, helping out, and encouraging the person in question to "get out of their bubble&q

Still, I don't think the title is misleading. If he was playing against adults, I'd explicitly include that in the title because it's majorly impressive.

I'd assume they'll be heavily regulating semiautomatic weapons, similar to Australia. I think that's where most of the benefit would come from - I imagine it's a lot harder to commit a mass shooting with a bolt action .2

I don't think so - if I read about an 8 year old winning a tennis championship, I'd assume they're playing with other kids. The interesting and impressive part comes not only from the achievement itself (winning the champions

Sounds like the new ban will make NZ similar to Australia in regards to firearm regulation. Sounds pretty good to me - shootings are very rare down under, and anecdotally all the farmers I know have access to firearms when needed. Reading a

Personally, I find the concurrency support quite lacking. Compared to Java/Javascript/Python/etc, it's great, but nothing compared to languages like Ada or Elixir. I wish we could use more than channels - for me, I often

YAML is great for simple human-editable configuration files. Its very easy to write, and can be picked up quite quickly. Opting for YAML over XML/JSON/whatever doesn't make me a tool. It made life much easier for myself &

Backend Go, frontend React. I want to check our Erlang/Elixir, and maybe Ember for the frontend. Trying to figure out the most efficient way to build things!

Joe Armstrong does this in Programming Erlang: Software for a Concurrent World . Its extremely effective, and pulled me through each chapter by forcing me to continually look at how the solution could be improved.

The reason it looks so similar is likely the art style. Since it's less realistic, they can (probably) lean heavily on good textures and less on high polycount and fancy graphic techniques (realistic shadows, HDR, etc)

As someone who made this decision recently, I decided on a Sony a6000 and have loved it. The cameras quality is pretty high, and my photography skills will likely never hit the "quality ceiling" where I need to buy a better camera

I agree - Go has issues, but they're not related to readability. Perhaps if you include "familiarity with the standard interfaces" (like using io.Reader) which is different to other languages, and took a while for me to get u

Is there a benefit learning Elixir over Erlang? I've working a little bit with Erlang, and I've wondered if its worth the jump.

Type safety matters insofar as it (arguably) makes development a lot easier. So I guess that indirectly has an effect on the webapp, but your users will not care what tech stack you use.
