Regarding database hosting, if you would consider giving the data away, I would suggest converting it to an SQLite database and sharing it over Torrent.

Some threads on Reddit represent an echo chamber and I like then to sort by controversial to check if there are also people with a bit more divergent opinion. I was not aware of this being a wider problem for people.

Why inability to sort by controversial is seen as a positive?

I would naively think that putting the bigger part of the battery in the trailer is a good idea. Now someone can tell me why it isn't.

I'm sure GPT will cover more ground much easier, but aren't LLMs in general much more resource intensive? It seems they will remain expensive to run for quite some time.

Off topic: you mean "I couldn't care less". As David Mitchell once said: "If you could care less about something then all you're telling us is that you do care at least a little bit because you could care less.

There is one thing I really hate about shorts in particular. I watch YouTube mostly via Chromecast and if you attempt to play a short it will show a dialog on your phone saying you have to disconnect from Chromecast first. It is bogus and s

That sounds plausible. Will have to check what a sibling comment suggested with getting the reason of the wake-up.

I have an employer issued Windows laptop. I have it connected to a charger on my desk almost all day. It is very often the case, that I close the lid and after some time it gets hot and the fan gets very loud. I always wonder: "what th

I would imagine that in the future ad-blocker will need to actually run the javascript, but in a separate temporary context. In Firefox terms a tab that runs in two containers at once. A shadow context for the ad-machine and content nuggets

I think that machine learning probably can produce something akin to a brain, but LLMs are not really it even if they use the digital equivalent of a neuron. As much as I understand what I read about LLMs they really seem to be descendants

I pay for the premium. I have a 2nd gen Chromecast. For some time there is a modified interface and it is akin to Youtube TV. So you see thumbnails for the proposed videos there. They also advertised having a remote control for the interfac

Most programs either write a full file every time and replace the old file by a single move or append to an old file. Writting in the middle could happen in a program writting to some kind of archive or disk image. There is probably a whole

I think most (or at least significant portion of) perfect murders from fiction are murders of someone significant or the motive seems to be evident.

So possibly some basic iGPU (maybe even Intel) with lots of VRAM assigned could be enough?

Question from a noob: how good would it be to run those on a computer with AMD APU (for example Ryzen 9 7940HS) with 128GB RAM and setting aside 64GB for iGPU?

My kid sleeps with some kind of white/brown noise since being around 2 years old. The child psychologist we went to with, now, the 6 year old recommended us to try to eliminate the noise. She seems to need it to fall asleep, but around

If you have a configure step it can fail by default if there is anything to specify explicitly. But otherwise it is nice to have some defaults. In my opinion a configure script shouldn't do much in terms of detection. It should not sil

I recently started eyeing ninja and for many cases it makes more sense than make. Still those ci/cd configs should always be very thin wrappers (single command for single thing) around whatever script tooling is used internally.

Aren't those also tests of sea worthiness? A ship will have to withstand much harsher conditions. It is better for it to fail early than in the middle of an ocean in bad weather.

For some time I think about using Rust, but in a cut down manner. Ignore Cargo and most of its stdlib. Not to use traits. Allow myself to use unsafe once in a while. Basically a subset of Rust that would be just safer-C. I wonder if that wo
