There's a sharded paxos with a shardmaster. Essentially each shard has its own paxos consensus.

Try this: do a small clap. Then do a big clap. Now slap the table, chair, or wall you are near. All of them are obviously not sonic booms. QED. You can make sonic booms with bull whips. They are quite a different sound than just slapping an

Well I guess I'll share my opinion too. K8s is not just for $BIGNAME companies. Personally I find k8s to be excellent for small shops because it has trivialized the install of large complex apps, opening doors for small groups to have

IMO it's because of this default in k8s storage class: https://kubernetes.io/docs/concepts/storage/storage-classes/... . Almost everything in a k8s cluster can be ephemeral... except your data! But t

A lot of terrible responses here, but here's my terrible take: 1. First are they wanting to discuss anything with you, or are you passively watching them on social media and now wanting to engage? The latter is different and falls more

I'm surprised Dark Mirror got it so wrong in their episode Metalhead. The killer robots should have been bourrée stepping in their chase. But on a more serious note, the robot olympics should be quite fun.

Someone recently left a comment saying Debian should consider a long-long-LTS of 50 years! I laughed my ass off at such an outrageous idea... but really, Debian is the one organization that could actually pull such a thing off (I suspect, I

Hopefully your explanation gave others reason to want to fund more material science research. There's nothing wrong with wanting something to succeed, and understanding the potential impacts is good motivation to keep going (while foll

Here's a brief example paired to some of the nomenclature in the parent post: Linear algebra are equations that do not have exponential independent variables. For example (a,b,c,d,e) are constants: aw + bx + cy + dz = e. You won't

I am rewatching Stargate with my 9yo. She loves it. It introduces a lot of sci-fi, science, culture, political, and humanitarian topics that are fun to talk with her about. We're somewhere in season 3, so definitely in its prime. TBD h

Heh I am glad I have not had many colleagues like this, but 1-2 this is 100% their modus operandi. Even worse though is when management understands this and passively rewards it by not intervening. In one case it got so bad the employee was

Glad it worked out for OP, but NGL that is a long program. Probably the most disappointing part of the essay is still the idea that good experiments proving hypothesis wrong is not publishable. Is that a problem with the research community,

File an LLC for yourself. Give it a normal name. Add it to your resume if you ever need one again (and maybe you won't!). Gives whatever time you spent doing or not doing something more authenticity.
