I’m not arguing that the IA is right or wrong here. The point more generally is that there’s an asymmetry in how people are thinking about these issues, and to highlight that asymmetry. If it turns out after various lawsuits shake out that

To me, the point isn’t that what the IA was doing was fair use, but that what LLMs are doing arguably is not . > In the AI use case, they're typically aiming not to output any significant part of the training data What they’ve ai

I get that. My point is that I’m uninterested in making it easier for LLM products to interact with my sites. I realize there may be products that may benefit from this. I was just agreeing with the sentiment that I want no part in it.

I was primarily agreeing with the sentiment that making it easier for companies to consume my work is a hard sell. I realize not all sites fall into this category.

That’s debatable. The end result is still potentially making your own content obsolete/unnecessary and these “open weight” models are still trained without the permission of creators (there are no true open source models at this point)

That’s really my primary issue. Google indexing my content and directing traffic to my site is one thing. But unlike search indexing, there is no exchange of value when these LLMs are trained on my content. We all collectively get nothing f

How and why does this make it a different matter? Photographs capture a moment in time. This moment occurred at a beach. It wasn’t sexual then, and it’s not sexual now. If someone manipulated the image to be explicit or presented it in an o

The issue is that this isn't how it plays out in practice for most people. It's extremely easy to accidentally get too blasted, and then the next time you're already coming from a place of higher tolerance, and before long, e

There was a huge delta between what these systems could do. e.g. the Commodore 64 was an 8-bit 1 MHz processor vs. the 386's 32-bit 12-40MHz, could not run a full operating system, had 64 KB RAM vs. 1MB or more on the 386, etc. In term
